Yeah, I know i've posted a lot today.

What knife would you use for harvesting food (like mushrooms) and preparing them at camp? I think a full flat grind would be a bonus. Maybe some kind of Mora?

Mora would be good, .... easy to re-sharpen, & value cost.

Just keep the carbon versions wiped w/ mineral oil to keep rust at bay.

If you're just doing light detail work, then an ESEE 3 or Izula might work. BRKT also makes some nice smaller knives.

By "camp knife" do you mean something you won't be carrying around with you? In which case I'd suggest a kitchen knife.

If it's a cheaper kitchen knife you want, maybe check out the Old Hickory lineup. They are 1095 carbon steel, and once you put an edge on them, they aren't bad kitchen knives. Maybe the 7" Butcher, or a smaller field knife. Knife center carries the entire line.

If its going be mainly for food prep, a nice carbon steel kitchen/chef's knife would be my choice. Most camp knives are too thick at the spine to excel with food IMO.

Check out some of the frontier knives at Ragweedforge.com and look at the trade knives and also check out Mora line.

A Mora can do that and it's so cheap you could just give it a try and find out if you like it. A friend of mine uses his classic Mora #1 all the time in the kitchen and is very happy with it. It cuts fruit, meat and other food and recently it cut his father his thumb. He didn't believe that such a cheap knife can be sharp.... there are some weird people on this planet.

For small prep knife (paring-like) check out Barkriver TUSK, Pro Scapel, or Mini-Canadian

From personal use, I've found the Buck Gen5 Skinner to be an excellent choice. It has a nice thin but broad enough stainless blade, easy to keep sharp etc. Cleans up well. It carries easily and is very versatile, meat dicing and slicing, fish and veg preparation, fruits, even slices bread well! Long handle suits most builds of hand. Not expensive either and is easy to travel with-pack,belt or large pocket.

Check out the thread on the Entrec's. Also check out John Greco's MST on fleabay you cannot beat that knive for the price period. That is one solid hunk of 8670 tool steel.......With a wicked heat treat to boot:thumbup:

Mora is definitely the way to go if you care mostly about kitchen tasks. If you are looking for something more sturdy but still capable of handling fine tasks I'd suggest a Benchmade Rant (several options available).

A Mora slices meat OK...but it is terrible for slicing veggies. Onions, carrots, and such.

If you want a dedicated food prep knife...get one! I suggest a Vic/Forschner chef's knife. Souyld set you back around 20 bucks.

Now for harvesting mushrooms, I think any self-respecting knife knut would have to own this Karl Johan mushroom knife.
