Good morning Porch dwellers.

There have been many instances of kindness both by and toward members on this forum.

My example, and what inspired this GAW, was my quest to find a 2019 Forum knife to commemorate my retirement from the Navy. I searched for over a year in an attempt to get my hands on one to no avail, that was until I reached out to GeofS GeofS . Not only was he willing to part with his, but it was his personal knife and, on top of that he wouldn't take anything as payment for it. To say I was blown away with his generosity would be an understatement.

I am also thankful for @BDubbs willingness to help me in my search as well as giving me a great deal on a replacement knife recently when I told him of my plans for this giveaway.

This giveaway will have two parts. The first part will be for paid members that are regular contributors here along with non-paid members with over 100 posts in the Traditional subform. The second part will be for non-paid members that contribute here that have not reached 100 posts, but have at least 50 posts.

The prize for the first giveaway will be a 2020 Forum knife as shown below. The prize for the second giveaway will be a surprise to the winner next week.

To enter, please post one example of generosity (no matter how big or small) that you have been a part of, either as the giver or the beneficiary. If you were the giver please don't think of it as boasting, the goal here is to show that kindness towards others still exists with all that is going on in the world. Please also let me know, if an non-paid member, which giveaway you are putting your name in for consideration.

I will let this run through Groundhog Day (next Tuesday) and will choose winners from a random name picker.

Good luck and remember, kindness matters!

Jeremy, thank you for a great giveaway! I have been both the giver and the beneficiary many times over the dozen years I've been on BF, but the one that stands out is my "Christmas Knife." I related in a thread that I had carried the same Gerber Silver Knight for about 14 years and finally lost it. A fine member here happened to have a collection of Silver Knights, and graciously gifted me a replacement for my lost knife. I honor his gift by using it every Christmas for opening presents, hence "Christmas Knife."

Not an entry, but I wanted to commend you for paying it forward. I have learned more about generosity and giving from "The Porch" than I had known my whole life.

I have hosted a few GAW's over the years, and I always receive more from them than I give away.

Exceptionally cool GAW, sbh06 sbh06 . Thank you! :)

No doubt, as your last give away set the generosity bar pretty high both in quality and number of knives given away.

Congratulations and thank you for sponsoring a giveaway! I'm in for sure.

I've been on both ends of the Porch generosity, so here are a couple cool such stories.

1) I was hunting a few TC Barlows a few years back, and reached out to a handful of people on the porch. One gentleman had the 2016 Clip Point Peachseed Jigged Bone, and refused to take a payment for it. I received his knife and another, different configuration. I happened to be browsing the WTB section, and saw a gentleman wanting to buy a barlow for his ailing father who had grown up with one. Since I had more than one knife, I offered to send him this one to give to his dad. Pretty cool opportunity to put a smile on a few people's faces.

2) The knife below I received from @Will Power . He sent it to me as a thanks for serving as proxy for I think a Pheasant Feather Acrylic Bird Dog. I carried and used the knife for a couple years, and then I think I sent it along to Josh JTB_5 JTB_5 . I could be mistaken about that, but I think that's what happens and hopefully he'll correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks for the great GAW! Such a generous thing to do. I will throw my name in the cap. I am still fairly new here, but my first instance of generosity besides everyone's general helpful knowledge was @sf fanatic offering me a beer & sausage sheath in return for me buying a subscription to this site. I was blown away by that. There is no shortage of good folks here in this forum. I probably need to stay off the porch more though as my knife collection has grown a fair amount in the last year or so.

I would like to be in as a non-paying member (for now) with over 100 posts, as long as shipping to Canada would be possible in off chance that I win.
Every time anyone mentions generosity I can't help but think of my friend Jeff. Not only did he and his wife open their home to me when I had no other option, he also gave me a rifle that belonged to his father. He had originally planned on getting his firearms license but he knew I liked to shoot and hunt, and that it would get used. Jeff unfortunately passed away from cancer a short time after, but I still think of him often, especially when I bring the old SMLE out to the range or a deer stand.
Thanks for the great GAW

Will enter as non-paying with over 100 traditional entries. Years ago a nice fellow in the forum sent me a Vic Soldier. Wish I could remember who. I don't have any horn handles, so that would be nice.

This is a nice GAW, thanks for the opportunity. I've entered quite a few GAW's over the past years but have yet to be lucky.

Just off the top of my head, a moment that I received generosity. A cousin of mine (a generation older than I) wanted to teach me about ginseng hunting, to pass her knowledge on to someone younger. We spent 2 full weeks after work going all over through different sections of woods in our county, and usually not finding anything, but occasionally getting lucky. As we started to form a nice size pile of roots for drying, she asked what I may use the little extra money towards. I mentioned that our hunting camp roof had been leaking for a few years, and it would be nice to finally replace that.

When it came time to sell our roots, she gave her 1/2 of the profit to me to help pay for the roofing materials. It was very generous of her, and I've never forgotten. A few years later I helped her choose a nice Queen whittler knife as a b-day gift for her brother. She passed away suddenly only 3 months ago, and I think of her often. And our time spent walking through the hills together.

Awesome Jeremy,

I love seeing GAW, and posting my own (however few and far between). Very happy you finally scored a 2019 forum knife. Happy day!
Also thanks to GeofS GeofS for his selflessness. I myself have been a recipient of GeofS through words...you know what I’m taking about. ;)
Im not in for the GAW, but wanted to say good luck to all, and thank you Jeremy for hosting.

Not an entry, but definitely wanted to congratulate you on your new knife, and for such a great occasion too! Thank you for your service, and again for your generosity!

I myself have been the recipient of multiple folks here on Bladeforums, and have been grateful every time.

Yep, that was me! I’ve also been a recipient from JohnDF JohnDF who sent me a gift knife along with one I did some mod work for him on. I’ve also done a few small giveaways before—nothing fancy but it is always good to share in the generosity of a community.

Please don’t enter me in this giveaway, as I was lucky enough to get a 2020 forum knife, but good on you for the generous giveaway and thank you for your service!

Thanks for sharing Jeff. I've noticed that several members here go out of their way to help others without being asked. Glad you found a replacement for that one.

I am sure that you made his day with your kind gesture.

Thanks for sharing. Your post is proof that good does go around.

He is a fine example of both helping you and helping the site. I do share your pain, though, when it comes to hanging around here (not that it is a bad thing). I've went from 2 to 10 traditionals in the past year.

I would like to be in as a non-paying member (for now) with over 100 posts, as long as shipping to Canada would be possible in off chance that I win.

Sounds like Jeff was an outstanding gentlemen that put others first. Sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you have ways to remember him.

This is a nice GAW, thanks for the opportunity. I've entered quite a few GAW's over the past years but have yet to be lucky.

Well, this post did not end the way I was hoping. Your cousin must have had an amazing spirit of generosity. I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you to everyone else kind enough to drop by and leave a message in here. Two things in response:

- Serving this country was a privilege for me.

- I don't view this GAW as me being generous, but rather my chance to give back to a group that has given me so much knowledge on traditional knives and shown the true spirit of generosity.

This porch is a great place lots of kind an generous people.
I've both gifted and received knives in the past here.
I missed out on the forum knife last year so I would like the chance at owning one.
Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your service.
This Bullnose was one of those that was gifted to me and I use it frequently.
