"Good Guy" Knives and "Bad Guy" Knives

No you don't, because the question is purely nonsense. Inanimate objects are neither inherently good or bad; but, if you believe that there should be a list of banned knives and that those knives should be selected just because they have "skull" images as decoration, then go ahead and help to put it together.

Jeez...

Of course inanimate objects are neither inherently good or bad, its about the perception of one object versus another. Maybe I'm mistaken but i believe the op brought up this topic based on aesthetics.

Well...I certainly hope that isn't directed at me....read post #9.

Just out of curiosity, if damascus and MOP aren't good guy or bad guy knives...what kind of "guy" knives are you saying they are? Just trying to figure out the rules here.

You copied my exact definitions. I said that those are the "rules" or the idea that I laid out for this post/thread. If you don't like the definitions that I laid out for you, you are more than welcome to not post any responses here. It sounds like you are just plain ol' angry. I'm sure there are other threads specifically setup for you to release your agression in. Not here though.

Damascus and MOP are Mr Fancy Pants knives. I wrote this post because I am curious to find some other knives that I have not experienced first hand that don't looks super intimidating and give the vibe of a no-nonsense knife. To me, there aren't many long and beefy folders out there that have a look that is NOT tactical. This is my fun and covert way of finding out what other knives are out there that fit this profile. So far, I have only experienced first hand a few folders that fit this profile. i.e. Benchmade 710, maybe one or two ZT's, etc. I'm looking to find more and think it would be useful to get some other people opinions to give me some more options.

What a coincidence, I happen to have one of each on me right now...

Notice the quotation marks around the words "good guy" and "bad guy". If you don't understand what that means, this should help. I'm amazed by the amount of people that are pretending to not understand that some knives look more intimidating, more gimicky, and/or fancier than others. Strange. Also, there are quite a few people denying that there are a lot of blades that are purpose built/designed as utility folders and a lot of knives that are designed as killing machines (self defense tools). If a designer of knives understands this and the general public of sheeple understand this, then we should all understand this too. :congratulatory:

I understand that if you carry a Brous Reloader, you may just like the looks of the knife or you like the added dose of testosterone that it gives you when you carry it or whatever, etc. I think it's safe to assume that most of us here don't think that you you must have bad intentions if you are packin this knife. Saying that no knives fit into one of my two definitions is pretty strange. My definitions only described looks. It would be nice to get back on topic. It should be enjoyable for the people who want to join.

Good Guy Knife: Mini Commander
Bad Guy Knife: Ubr Commander

Good Guy Knife: Cold Steel Recon
Bad Guy Knife: Scrapyard Pskco (Doesn't really look bad to me, but it's begging to be laid in the hands of a people eater or something)

Good Guy Knife: Microtech Socom Delta (kinda)
Bad Guy Knife: Microtech Socom Delta Zombie Edition (blood splaters on the blade! WTF!?!?!)

I understand that if you carry a Brous Reloader, you may just like the looks of the knife or you like the added dose of testosterone that it gives you when you carry it or whatever, and that it doesn't necessarily mean that you carry the knife with bad intentions. But arguing the facts that there are knives that don't fit my two definitions is pretty strange. It would be nice to get back on topic. It should be enjoyable for the people who want to join.

The Recon 1 is a good guy knife?

Wow! I did not know that the damascus and MOP fans were "Mr Fancy Pants"-es. Thanks for clarifying!

If you want non-intimidating to those who, for some strange reason think an object is capable of intimidation, as others have said, go Vic SAK. Opinel would also be a good choice.

hahahah now I see what you were talking about with that pocket clip.

Yup. Not only does it chew up your pocket, but it'll refuse to be on any pocket that isn't thin fabric. I had to sand under mine. It's heat treated steel, so it's hard to bend. Mine doesn't chew up the pocket anymore after sanding, but it remains difficult to clip to a pocket. I really wish it had the Recon 1's clip.

Besides that little problem, it's one of my favorite folders, with my absolute favorite blade for utility purposes. Would put a nasty cut in Mr. Terrorist, too.

Good guy knife: most CRKT and CRK knives

Bad guy knives: most ZT knives, Strider, Brous blades (even though we all know its not true)

I would consider these some of my Good Guy knives:

And these some of my Bad Guy knives:

And a shot of them all together:

Any objections?

Well that behavior doesn't sound nice at all! Definitely a "bad guy" knife.

BTW...that skull bead on your SAK lanyard makes it a bad guy knife too, I believe. Skull = bad.

If I may, I would like to change my Opinel suggestion from "good guy" to "Mr Fancy Pants." They're from France.

I'm mulling over the category for "machete." Brush clearing tool = good guy. Used by 3rd world military to chop up people = bad guy.

I'm getting into this! I'm with the program.

No you're not understand this stuff. If you dont think skull generally equals intimidating, which is part of what I called a bad guy knife, then it sounds like you don't know the purpose/origin of why people display skulls. Also, pirates usually seem up to no good and they display skulls on their boat flags. I'm not sure if there are as many good guys I can think of that have people skulls being displayed. Usually, if its a real skull the person would have had to do something pretty bad to someone else in order to have their skull. :D

You also really aren't making any sense. You should probably leave this thread alone. because the trolling is annoying.

I have a PM2 and although I think it is a very very normal, maybe perfect, looking, feeling and functioning knife. I think its a good guy knife. Most sheeple get freaked out by the swoopiness and pointiness of the blade, which is very similar to the delica. I've found that A LOT of sheeple think all Spyderco's in general are bad guy looking. ....which sucks for carrying them at work sometimes. So, I half disagree with your Delica as a good guy knife, but in the knife community I think every one would agree that that is just a no nonsense EDC knife, that just get a job done well.

Also, while the sage, or what ever that leaf shaped blade is, may have a tall blade, it isn't all that swoopy and pointy so it's not going to be the first choice for someone to stab with or the first choice for an idiot to whip out for intimidating someone.

I was also just going to mention the phat bob as pretty good guy-ish one. You read my mind.

According to our stupid culture:

Good guy knife = slip joint or kitchen knife

Bad guy knife = everything else
