Good Hunting Knife for Gift

Then I would look long and hard at Bark River. I did before I decided to go for the Dozier, however, that would be twice your budget.

My vote is for the Kershaw Echo designed by Ken Onion. It has an aus8 blade, and a nice leather sheath. It is easy to change off the handle if you want to make a wood one for it. It retails at, like, $40.

OK, one more question. I have narrowed it down to either the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Vanguard (here) or the Benchmade 10500 (here) or one the the Bark River Knives (here). Keeping in mind that I need as little upkeep as possible, which would you choose? Thanks again for all your help!!

If you put the qualifier of little upkeep, the Alaskan Guide Vanguard is the better of the two stainless knives you are considering. The blade has a better grind with a better edge than the Benchmade. It will also hold an edge longer. The Benchmade will probably be easier to sharpen, though. If you do go with the Bark River, it is not stainless, but will resist corrosion better than normal carbon steels like 1095. Also, you can get a really good deal on Bark River knives from AG Russell, he has the Highland (4" blade) for $60, and the Woodland (3" blade) for $55. That is a really good deal, and either one would be a good choice. Plus, AG is great to deal with.
