Good Inexpensive travel knife, suggestions?

The Bucklite max is my beater/travel knife. One of the better FB for the money. When travelling I carry a Sak or multi-tool.

Im taking Mercator cat55 stainless and Victorinox (not sure of model, soldier maybe):).Dmt coarse folding sharpener too.Ill be ok:).Don't know but I have endure and delica ffg too, but these knives are lighter and perform as well.Thank to all of you guys for input!

DIDNT HAVE TIME to get Opinel garden knife today, my car wouldn't start it was minus 30degres c , started it late and had other things to do:).Ill take 2-3 knives on this trip, one doesn't suit all! One swiss army , delica or endura and my trusty Mercator 55.By the way Victorinox could handle it all, I know that from my previous trips!

Swiss army knife, any flavor.

Yeah, what he said!^^

A SAK is my regular travel knife that I mail to myself where I'll be staying. When I leave, I just gift it off to someone the day I leave. Last time I was fishing in Key West, I sent a recruit to myself, and on the morning I left I gave it to the young grounds keeper. He was very happy. On our Rogue River rafting trip, the young guy at the car rental counter at the airport was happy with a free unexpected SAK.

SAK's are cheap enough to just give away at the end of your trip.

jackknife, I read few of your posts and like your minimalist approach with inexpensive cheap knives.I agree with it.Have many knives, but find most of it is overpriced for what you get.Currently my favorite is Mercator cat 55:)!

SAKs. Pick the size and complexity to suit your needs while traveling.

Traveled for several months in Europe back in the early 80's. Riding trains, camping out and backpacking. A Vic Champion handled every need. These days, I guess a Swiss Champ would get the nod for that trip. My companions both carried Explorers.

I'd go with a Victorinox 108mm Safari Trooper. Longer, stouter tools, just the right ones and nothing more, lightweight textured nylon scales, and a lanyard hole that goes THROUGH the handle, not some dinky split ring. The combination of red scales with the swiss cross makes it look like a people-friendly camp/rescue tool, not some black tactical psycho-weapon - a definite advantage around the non-knife public and most LEOs.

Another vote for the Victorinox 1H Trekker. The screwdrivers come in handy too.

Another great Victorinox is the Tinker, it has two plain edge blades, as well as a Phillips head and regular screwdrivers.

If you ever need a pliars, Leatherman's Skeletool is about as efficient as it gets, only having the pliers, a knife blade (that opens 1 handed and has a liner lock!), and both styles of screwdriver.

If you don't need the other stuff in the SAKs and MTs, your options for a knife are only limited by your budget and the laws in the areas you're traveling through. I'd recommend non-assisted, non-waved, simple folders for travelling because it's difficult to know what will or will not get you attention in different areas. I commonly bring a Spyderco Delica when travelling, the 3" blade and utilitarian appearance don't attract attention. ESEE's Zancudo folder is a great inexpensive knife with premium features.

Victorinox Trekker would be a good choice. Non threatening looks while having a OHO locking blade. I also find the tools come in handy when traveling and I don't have access to my normal tools.

Agreed!
Almost exactly fits your requirements; inexpensive but well made, light to carry, not scary looking, nearly 4" blade, plus several other tools that frequently come in handy when traveling. You might give this one serious consideration. Enjoy your travels.
