So me and my gf both got new white 16gb iphone 4s (she still gets one with her family not with me until after this 2 years when we are moved in together) and i got the same but i got it on virgin mobile because they had a good deal (2 months free service plus 15% off the msrp on the iphone). I work in a very rugged enviorment and im looking for a case and my gf also is pretty rough with her phone.

I currently have these on there with a zagg shield but i dont like the zagg shield tbh http://shop.impactgel.com/Impact-Gel...-Case-I4MC.htm

It made my phone seem less responsive and gives the screen a washed out look. I was looking for something pretty durable for drops and scuffs for both of us but dont want to spend a fortune on like that new otterbox armor or a life proof. I know that 80$ for a case is worth it on a 500$ phone but still its not really in the budget.

Should i go for the otterbox defender hybrid series that are right around 30 bucks? Or is there other things that are similar priced? I want the case to not be too big or bulky (i expect some bulk but just not huge) and i want one of those integrated screen protectors thats built into the case to save the trouble and hassle of them. I dont actually use my phone for work i just always have it on me in case of emergency so i dont want some huge gigantic industrial armor for my phone that makes it hard to use, i would say 50% of my time is texting 30% is playing games and the other 20 is like browser and phone calls and pictures so i would like the case to leave the phone functional.

I havent had any personal experence with otterbox or any other iphone cases so is there anything out there that will suit me well for not too much cash?

If i can add anything else to help you guys help me find something good please let me know. I would prefer to buy a case from amazon if possible because i got a month free of 2 day shipping cause my little sister got a kindle for her birthday but its not 100% nessicary.

Thanks guys !

I would honestly recommend a lifeproof case. You can find a code online to bring the price down. I like the lifeproof because if it gets dirty i can wash it right off. Dropping it has no effect. Bringing it in the water or being all sweaty won't get into the case and possibly damage the phone. The screen is sensitive and the camera is always crisp. Don't cut corners if you do buy lifeproof, get it from their website. Almost all sites with prices too good to be true are fakes. Otterbox is also worth it. Really to me it needs an integrated screen protector because i fish, work on cars and such and my phone would be a mess without it. Silicone is a must for drops, but is also easy to clean. And a case that encloses the whole phone makes for a longer wear case. Otterbox was used before i got my lifeproof and it's a great case, but the lifeproof is like mm thicker than the phone itself and slips into a pocket easy, where as the otterbox cases are bulky. I can say though i dropped my phone off of a lift getting out of a car once up in the air and the phone was fine. It also survived in a daily work environment of chemicals and rotor shavings from the lathe. I also really like switcheasy cases, give those a checkout.

second on the Lifeproof case.

Beware when (if) you buy online, like on ebay or amazon. If i were you, I would buy direct from Lifeproof. It's $$ but a one-time cost for quality. There are a ton of fakes on ebay. My first "lifeproof" was a fake and I didn't even know it. It was pretty decent, waterproof, and worked for a little under a year. It eventually cracked, and when I bought a real Lifeproof I realized that my older one was a fake because of the difference in quality.

As was mine from ebay and my girlfriends. I will only own lifeproof from now on.

The OB Defender is fairly bulky. The Commuter series is almost as tough but considerably slimmer. I have a Nite Ize Eclipse on mine (Commuter) so it never accidentally slips out of my pocket. I sometimes use the clip to hang the phone on a lanyard around my neck. Again, not dropping the phone in the first place, is the best defense of all. In the unlikely event that my phone does hit the ground, the Commuter is still a very tough case, and I'm confident the phone will come through just fine.

Seems like the phone case market is just like the knife market, if you dont buy it from legit dealers then its flooded with fakes. Kind of sad tbh. my gf's brothers girlfriend has a life proof and its so hard to use, but his friend has one and its really easy. Maybe one is fake and one is real, it was really weird.

+3 on the lifeproof case. I work in the field all day and my lifeproof case has held up very well. The fact that it adds almost nothing in terms of bulk or weight to the phone is its best feature IMHO. Spend the $75 and get a real one. They are worth it.

What so you mean hard to use? As in the screen protector doesn't sit flat against the screen? It's either fake or the first generation. All the ones out now are flat. Mine sits against the screen more than my otter box. Just like a screen protector.

Yea i didnt know how to word it but you hit it on the head, it doesn't sit flat so you got to actually use pressure to get to the buttons.

The original fix for that was to open the bottom flap and run the phone down your leg or with a finger squeegee the air out then shut the flap. But the new ones suction the air right out. And if you go under water the pressure pushes air out but doesn't let water in, so it's totally purged of air. It's definitely worth the money to protect your new investment. And short of falling into a fire, it's safe from anything and everything.

I use Lifeproof too and ditto the recommendations to buy directly. But keep in mind that Lifeproof's warranty only covers the case and not the phone. I trust it to keep my phone safe from rain, sweat, and the like; but if you really want to take photos surfing or underwater, etc., you're best off getting a digital camera designed for it.

I've used it down to about 8 feet successfully, but i do have an olympus tg-820 i use for all my under water pictures.

Lifeproof promotes the countless stories of its customers taking beautiful underwater photos with Lifeproof-encased phones. But if you're one of the unlucky few whose phone dies from a leak, Lifeproof's warranty only covers its case, not your phone (putting aside loss of data, photos, etc., that had not been backed up). My original case started to crack after 10 days of pocket-carry without any drops, and a co-worker's case similarly cracked after a couple of months. In both instances, Lifeproof provided hassle-free, immediate replacements even before receipt of the cracked cases, which speaks highly of its warranty and customer service. The experience does not, however, inspire confidence in me to go snorkeling with my iPhone. Again, I use Lifeproof and I think it's the best thing out there, but I'm satisfied with the dust, mud, rain, snow, and very good impact protection without testing its 'dunk-proof' claims. Mileage may vary...

I have used a lot of iPhone cases. My favorite has been the Rokform cases. All USA made and they seem to be pretty durable. My wife's iPhone is still alive, that has to attest for something :). I have tried the life proof but wasn't impressed with sound quality or dust resistance. I had micro scratches on my screen from dust trapped under mine. Other than those two gripes, I didn't mind the lifeproof. I may pick up another one day for outdoor activities, but for office use my Rockform is more than enough

I have an Otterbox Defender on my Galaxy SIII, and a Ballistic SG MAXX on my iPhone 4S.

I like the Ballistic case better than the Otterbox, and I think it is constructed better. iPhone has hit the ground several times without any issues.

I work in a machine shop, and the phone is still in new condition.

The Body Glove is cheap, but effective. An inner gel layer does the standard impact absorption job to deal with drops and bumps, but it is also anti-microbial, so it will stay fresh and clean in the long term. A two piece outer shell slides together on the outside to deflect any potential damage. It has a soft touch finish that’s comfortable to hold. The three pieces are contrasting colors gives it a nice look and there are cut outs for the camera and controls.

When i was looking on the lifeproof site this morning they actually have this thing i guess its like insurance if you pay 10$ and your phone breaks due to leakage they will replace your phone or fix it.
