Good Jogger's Knife

I tried a neck knife when jogging and it was a huge pain in the ass not to mention the neck. I like to use a small CD player case, very small case, with a cold steel scimitar inside. But I do a lot of jogging in the city and if I am confronted by a drunk or thug I can just hit him in the head with the ball end. The case is bug enough so that I can put my cell etc. inside as well.

Warren Thomas makes great concealable fixed blades out of Titanium with a welded carbide edge. Very lightweight and will never corrode, so no worries if you carry it against your body while sweating. I carry one his his fixed blades IWB, (Model 5), when I am out and about. Forget it is there until I need it.

The E2d is a good choice in flashlights. Do you carry it clipped, or in your hand while jogging?

To be honest, I've tried neck-carry with fixed blades, and wasn't impressed. Knives with 3-inch blades or over were a pain to carry. Smaller blades are fine, but then you run into the problem of getting to it under your shirt, sweater, or hoodie. (I don't advise open carry). Some jurisdictions ban all fixed-blade knives, regardless of length. In some places, you're required to carry concealed, if you carry a knife. Why? Who knows.... maybe so you don't scare the sheeple?

For jogging, I think a quality one-hander is best. You can carry it in your closed hand, use it in a hammer-grip against an attacker, and if the guy doesn't get the message; thumb that blade open....

try jogging with a knife in the uk and you'll be locked up. when we have social problems we don't do anything about it we just ban innanimate objects. oh yes, self defense isn't an excuse to carry a knife here. a tip for you, in england and wales you can have a non locking sub 3 incher to carry, in scotland you may not carry any 'non domestic' knife unless you have good cause i.e. you are hunting or fishing or going to do so or comming back. last year, in scotland a guy was prosecuted for having a knife in his fishing bag in his car, when he wasn't going fishing. irony is i did 14 years as a policeman and most of the stabbings i saw were done with kitchen knives or craft knives, they are cheap and you can throw them.

It depends on what kind of mood I'm in and what I'm wearing. When the waist of my pants is thinner (like with Under Armour shorts), I carry it clipped to the waistband underneath my shirt, etc. When the rope running through the elastic is too thick to allow easy drawing or placement of the clip there, then I carry it in my hand. It's good practice carrying it in the hand due to the fact that I run the 4x800 for my high school track team.

I carry the knife to school and to track practice. The other week, when running a country block (about 5 miles in my county, Crawford), a mean-looking rotweiler approached but was scared away by a quick flash of light. The SureFire is a comforting partner when I can't have a knife.

I just carry whatever my EDC of the day is with me in my hand. Right now it's a Benchmade presidio auto 5k. I'm not really worried about 2 legged vermin, more like some redneck who's let their half breed pit get loose. Legally I can carry the auto though. At that time of the morining though (7am) the 5-0 is still at the diner.

I think you'd do better with a flashlight and some bear pepper spray. I can't imagine that you could very much with a Spot or LaGriffe if something on 4 legs is really after you.

Busse AK-47.

I'm joking, of course... though it would be funny as hell if you took me up on my advice. That is, until you had to serve jail time.

Anything zytel with a clip would work best. Something with a good stainless that won't rust. Spyderco has a lot of knives to fit this description.

I use a small fanny pack and carry a P38T.

Yeah, you know, I was thinking along the lines of the AK47. Not the Busse though. After thinking about it, I decided, hell, if there's the chance a cop won't like a SPOT I'm screwed (though legal size is 4" in my area---knife, that is, now that we're having a humorous thread here). May as well be portrayed as a terrorist in the local news. AK47 7.62x39mm, 70 round drum, in the recommended ANKLE HOLSTER. I'm gonna build up those calves.

For the record, this is a joke---if you're too thick to understand that.

BRKT Fox River or Northstar. Or for less money, a Cold Steel SRK.

Or if money is no object, a Bob Dozier Bowie.:D

one of the HAKs would be good.

or an older gen delica or endura, the ones without the liners (that is if your going for light weight)

GO BUCKS!!!!

O. H. ...!

steelscout30,

I make a neck sheath for your Pacific Salt that will deploy the blade on the drawstroke, if you add a "Spydie Drop" to the motion. Very fast and you won't have to get a new knife (unless you just want to). :) A lot of joggers carry this rig. Contact me if you're interested.

I jog with either a Spyderco Spot or a Utility HAK. Granted having the knife thumping me on the chest is a bit annoying. If not one of those 2, I carry a Spyderco SE Tasman Salt.

o yeah, and carry water. self defense against dehydration, the enemy you are most likely to encounter on a morning jog :D

for a legal improvised weapon tie some paracord onto the loop of a nalgene bottle, and keep a decent length wrapped around the bottle. It will make a handy flail thingy for whacking punks/savage beasts/ninjas when weighted with water, and you can drink the water
