Also, don't know how much you're into knives, but don't let the country of ma affect your choice. There are quality knives made in China, Taiwan, Japan, etc. For $20-50 I'd vote for Kershaw or Byrd knives. $50 -150 Spyderco and Benchmade and Zero Tolerance. Unless you are looking for a super light budget EDC folder the Kabar Dozier is a steal around $20!
^^^^ Pretty much.
Tons of fakes out there.
Honestly, I wouldn't advocate someone new to knives buying a knife at a show. Too many fakes, and prices can be all out of whack also.
Do research and buy through reputable dealers whether online or brick and mortar.
Also be careful on eBay. I saw a white Endura 4 for $39 claiming ZDP-189 steel so I messaged the seller asking if it was legit (knowing it's not) and he claimed that they were real. Derp. Right. Who sells a brand new $90+ knife for $39? A bootlegger.
If you have a smart phone or a tablet, bring it. It will be a valuable tool to help you compare prices and authenticity.
Prices will usually be on the higher side, but I've bought some knives (in the $50-200ish range) at gun shows that were priced right at, just above or even under what you can find online. Even if it's a touch higher, it's not a bad trade off to actually be able to pick up the knife you're interested, look it over and then walk home with it that same day.
Even if you don't pick anything up, it'll be fun to just walk around, browse and chat with people that share interests. Good luck!
A recommendation, go to the knife show. Handle knives that appeal to you. Take names. Post here after, ask some questions about what you saw, what looked good to you. Pick a winner then order from a reputable dealer.
