good knife for a female friend...

I bought my girlfriend an orange handle ladybug, and she loves it. If you ask me, a leek isn't "smaller" at all.

allright all, sorry for not being as specific as i could have been, it was late :P

my price range is under 50$, ive brought up the matter to her and she said she'd ring my neck if i ever spent more than that on her.

while that might put me in a vice, i showed her a large selection of knives. she seems to enjoy hawkbill or straight blades, and a few drop points. coated or not is no problem. she doesnt seem to like the look of older knives, so a buck 110 would be out of the question (i tried.)

she will mostly be using this knife for EDC, although she loves camping, so a knife that could get a little dirty would be nice. (like the idea for the boker trance, btw!)

last time i went to her house she played with my kershaw red plated scallion almost nonstop. she loved the feel, but she thought it was a litle small... that's why i thought of the leek.

thanks for the input so far guys, its really a big help! keep em coming!

I am with TazKristi on this too. A knife IS a very personal thing, let her pick it out. But, if that doesn't work for you....How about a Spyderco Delica? It is an excellent knife.

Well, my wife liked her Kershaw Blackout....but now she seems to be after my Shallot.
I would tell her to get her own, but the look in her eye when she figured out how to pop it open was just too dang......sexy.:D

$50?

Leek or Delica, in my opinion.

  • Both available in smooth stainless steel handles.
  • Delica has better blade steel.
  • Leek has Assisted Opening which she seems to enjoy (from playing with your Scallion... that sounds wrong :P).
  • Both are very comfortable knives to hold, and are a great size for EDC.
  • Kershaw and Spyderco are both great companies, with great warranties, and great customer service (admittedly though, Kershaw's turn-around time on repairs is unbeatable).
  • Both are great knives for the money, it just comes down to which you feel is better for her specifically.

In fact, I'd show them both to her and have her choose! Maybe print out some pictures and take 'em to her if you have to.

The lovely Italian girls I grew up with seem to take quite a fancy to carrying those mother of pearl handled stilettos.

I was informed that the father's presented these blades to their daughters when they were old enough to date.

Kershaw rainbow leek, all of my friends that are girls like it :)

They also have rainbow scallions and chives ;)

My wife is 5'10" and really isn't supposed to have anything dangerous at work, where she is an assistant director in a pre-school. She picked out a rainbow Chive to go with her miniature folding scissors in her pant's pocket EDC. They don't offend anyone - and are perfectly sized for many opening chores. Again, she picked them out - to be friendly 'sized'. She turned down SAKs and even the Damascus Leek I have that she adores - size did matter to her. Oddly, she didn't like the rainbow Leek I got for her about the same time as the Chive - ~5 yr back. My older son got it. I carried a Blur for years.
