Good knife for a first purchase?

I completly forgot about mcusta there a real sleeper in the knife world the vg-10 damascus should be great for edc use and have excellent edge retention hard to go wrong imo.

Ok, I'm looking over the Mcusta's again due to a resurgence of recommendation for them. :D

From the pics, I don't really like the indented spots where the fingers go, but there are a few designs that look good.

I like the Bob Lum...does it use the same blade as the Mcustas? I see they are both Seki?

Sorry for the crappy pics.:( If you find an extry $50 you can get that new damascus Spydie Delica (orange bone) when it comes out. Good Luck :D

Any link to pictures? From what I've seen of Spyderco (not knocking quality, just aesthetics), I'm not a huge fan.

I googled it and couldn't find much.

I might be able to squeeze out a bit more money....valentines, fathers day, anniversary and such coming up :D:D

Stink, I sent ya a VM. One more thing about mcusta is the tremendous variety they have to offer.

Seki is a city in Japan famous for blade making--most Japanese knife production is done there. Some companies (i.e., Seki-cut) are even named for it.

The Bob Lum Chinese Folder in any of its many iterations is great. I tend to prefer the Benchmade model myself:

It just looks and feels nicer. But other than the gold class model, which is usually about $700, no damascus.

Again, just to be sure we're all on the same page here, Mcusta doesn't use damascus. But it has a very similar look where you can see the steel being folded on top of the vg10 core.

Thanks for the info and further recommendations!

I'm not a purist, or anything, I just like the way Damascus looks and the type of blades Mcusta uses satisfy me in that regard.

In the end, though, I went with the Shallot. It's getting shipped to Santa Fe Stoneworks for some estimates. I figured this would be the best way to get everything the wife wanted, while still having a quality knife behind it. I was able to push the budget a bit by overspending on her valentine's day present (she doesn't like when my presents are more expensive than hers).

I'm not sure what the total cost will be, yet, but when I do, I'll start a new thread with pictures! :D
