Good knife for a paramedic

I have to agree on the Cold Steel Land and Sea Rescue Knife. It has a 'Sheepsfoot" point, so it would not be dangerous working around patients (no more dangerous than the operator, anyway), can cut through a stuck seat belt like hot butter, and when closed, the Zytel handle is tough enough to use as a Window-Break. It's what I would carry if I were a EMT.

Whatever you like for normal every day use would be fine IMO. As far as medic call work goes, I've found that i'm not exactly willing to grab my knife from my pocket with bloody gloves or possibly infected with the super aids gloves. Something cheap and disposable would be best IMO. I guess to me the most important thing is to go ahead and cut some strips of tape ahead of time if possible. As far as a glass break, there's lots of options that work as good if not better than a knife.

I've been a medic for a LONG time and I've carried many knives throughout my career including spyderco's, benchmade's, strider's, kershaw's, and everything in between and I've settled on my Emerson CQC8. It does everything I need it to and more. There are many great choices out there, just go handle some knives and find what you like and go with it. Hope that helps, Jim
