Good Knife for EDC??

What are you doing with it? How big is too big? Does it need to have super long edge retention? Does it need to be exceedingly tough?

"I'm breaking down boxes" and "I'm breaking down boxes with lots industrial staples in them" are probably two different knives despite similar uses.

I would also suggest the Spyderco Delica or the Native 5. I would probably go with the Native 5 myself. I believe the FRN version is about $80 or there abouts.

This right here, or if you need/want smaller add the Dragonfly 2 to the mix.

As others have said, more info on your daily tasks would be helpful.

Also, are there any local laws that prohibit blade length or opening devices? For example, spring assisted knives might be illegal.

Without knowing any more info, I'll suggest a Ontario Rat 1 or Rat 2 (depending on what size blade you want) in D2. The D2 steel is worth a few extra dollars over the Aus 8. I'll pair that with a Swiss Army Knife (SAK). I'd suggest the Fieldmaster. I like scissors and the phillips head screwdriver.

The Rat is ~$40 and the Fieldmaster ~$36. Add in s/h and you are few bucks over $80 and that pair will serve you well.

Spyderco Tenacious is an affordable good quality knife. I don't know where you are but if autos are legal to carry, I would suggest a Boker Kalashnikov. Decent quality knife for the $ and fun.

Could get two for the $80. :) That’s what I was going to suggest.

Or a 110 & a 112, Incase you have to go somewhere with a 3” blade limit.
