Good knife for whittling?

I like whittling, and I use a lot of various knives for whittling, but my Mora is my favorite for serious whittling. I carved this spoon (my first ever spoon) solely with a Mora HighQ Allround.

i want to get into whittling and i dont know what type of knife to get. what is the best type of knife blade and shapes for whittling? what is the best company? i also want it to be a good edc knife that i could carry everday and still be good for whittling. thaks alot:)

Maybe look at a smaller chisel grind fixed blade.

Another vote for the Case seahorse, it's an excellent knife for the price. I carry one often and it always comes in handy.

I don't have a ton of pocket knives, but my Native 5 seems to be a great whittling knife. I find that choking up on the N5, and I can use it to get perform precision whittling. I know the blade tip isn't the strongest, but if we are talking about fine detailing (whittling), I find it is strong enough. It wouldn't be my first knife to use to shape the wood, but it would be my first choice in getting in them fine details.

ALso if you like the scandi grind that is found on Moras but for a pocket knife, Enzo has one that looks like it would be great for whittling.

Most people seem to like a fairly straight blade for whittling. I like to work on the curve of a blade with a slicing action. For an EDC knife that is good at whittling I like the Boker Carvers Congress.

I use the spey blade the most, but it has three other for when I need a different shape.

I cannot find any personal complaints with general whittling (and carry) of the good
ol' Buck 110. After starting to read this post I retrieved one of mine.... showed the edge
some appreciation and we're good to go. Good heft, good balance, feels good in hand,
and, just plain looks the part of a classic sit-on-the-cabin-front-porch whittling knife.
A smile worthy blade.

edit ... wow ! apologize...did not notice this post was started in Apr 2012. And,
the original poster never re-appeared in their post.

Is this my queue? I’m ready for my moment. I think it’s here, right now, in this resurrected thread.

Woooooo. I’m nervous. Knees weak. Arms spaghetti. The whole thing.

Here goes.

You need something with a Tri-Ad Lock, so you don’t cut off your fingers during hard use!

Yessssss!

Nailed it!

Ha, as if, people have been carving with slip joints since the beginning of time.

Sarcastic digs at needing a lock for whittling aside, my favorite folding knife for whittling actually does feature a tri-ad lock:

The straight edge and round shape just work for me. I've bought piles of purpose built fixed carving knives and I keep coming back to my Tuff Lites. They're cheap, only take a few minutes to fix up (I sand off the rough spots on the handles and break the edges of the spine).

You just made a sarcastic remark about needing a lock for whittling in response to my sarcastic post about needing a lock for whittling. There’s so much sarcasm here, I think we’ll need a Tri-Ad lock on any knife we try to cut it with!

Well I was about to put another vote in for the seahorse whittler, but now that I realize theres no triad on it, guess I'll have to toss them for safety...
