I would like to do some reading on knife making. I currently don't have a lot of space for tools (am a graduate student), so any making I end up doing will probably be with hand tools. In reading here I have seen many references to Wayne Goddard's $50 Knife Shop book, so I will be getting that one. But, I have also read that Goddard's book is mostly for forging, so do any of you have good suggestions for a good beginner book on stock removal? Or any other good beginner to intermediate books?

Thanks!!!

Forging is the first step, then you need stock removal. Any good book on forging will give you ALSO stock removal. I strongly advice you get Jim Hrisoulas books as well.
There are several online tutorial, too.
But you can read a thousand books and it isn't worth seeing it done once, and doing it yourself under qualified supervision. If at all possible, have some other knifemaker teach you. In a couple of hours you will learn more than in two years of book and online reading. ;)

I can recommend Knifecraft by Sid Latham it covers both stock removal and a bit of forging it is no longer in print but available through the online stores. You will enjoy it exelent reading in my opinion.

The Loveless/Barney book How to Make Knives is pretty good. It gives three makers perspectives on making knives. One on forging, One on stock removal, and one with hand tools (files and sand paper).
