Hello,
My name is Mark and I have a problem. (ALL: "Hello Mark")
Like many on this subforum I LOVE Spyderco Knives. However, I suck at sharpening them when they get dull. I bought a Sharpmaker and have had it for about six months, but all the knives I have sharpened on it seem to be just a little "off" to my standards. Maybe I just don't trust myself to correctly sharpen a knife that a love.
My question: Is there anyone here on BFC that sharpens any Spyderco knives to your high standards?
I have heard that Tom Krein does some wicked Full Flat Grinds on Delicas and was wondering if anyone knows how much that costs to do and how long the wait is for the service.

Thanks in advance!

I thought that unlike Kershaw and Benchmade Spyderco Knives does not sharpen their knives. Was i wrong?

If you want your knives sharpened you can just send them back to Spyderco.
You can also send them to forumites Richard J, STR or Tom Krein.

Tom will do regular sharpening as well as regrinds.
The full regrinds start at about $40 if I remember for a knife under 3.5" and the price goes up with the lenght of the knife.
My regrind was done and posted back to me in about 2 weeks (international)

If you're ever in the North Canton / Akron area I could show you some tips for better sharpening.

sparkymark86, i'm just north of you. if you want lessons i would be more than glad to teach you.

i can teach you how to get a knife as sharp as it possibly can be. check out the video in my sig line.

With practice and patience, a Sharpmaker can surpass any factory sharpening job. Just takes some time and lots and lots of practice. The nicro-bevel may bee condemned by those who subscribe to a super thing edge, but it is very effective.

Sometimes a super sharp knives seems "dull" because you have completely removed the "tooth" from the edge. Test the edge on some media before your "thumb test" convinces you it is dull.

I see you've already made that decision, but thought I'd chime in anyway. If you want it ridiculously sharp, send it to Richard.

Meets high standards? Yup.

This one was done up for my Sister, I already have a Caly 3 and Fallkniven U-2 with this type of edge geometry.
