Good knives for slicing and food prep (preferably spyderco)

I own about 7 spydercos. The one i always reach for is my spyderco endura. 4 inch blade seems to be just right.

Look for one with an open frame for ease of cleaning and rinsing. I'm sure there are plenty of spyders that fill the bill, but I use a buck avid for that reason.

Is it for edc or hiking/backpacking/camping? If for the latter, there are of course, plenty of fixies that will be better suitedfor slicing as well as other tasks.

spyderco military suits my camping food prep needs just fine. bit thick at the start of the spine which limits some uses, but it tapers quickly, and the taller flat ground blade gets down to a wicked edge.

otherwise, snag yourself an opinel #9 or #10.

If you have the money and want something a little different, see if you can find a Rock Lobster.

They're tailor made for slicing and seem perfect for food prep. They're light, open construction, and a cool conversation starter just for the unusual design. It might be tricky to find one though, and they aren't particularly cheap. But that arguably makes it a little more special if you get your hands on one.

In line with Spyderco is the Benchmade 741, 740 and mini versions 745, 746.

I'd bet the South Fork would make one hell of a food prep knife. I've heard the Stretch is a mean slicer, especially in ZDP.

Free your mind from the Spyderco "man", man! Becker Bk15 will set you free!!! Free with extra scratch in your pocket! (no, not free to scratch in your pocket! Get that checked out, man!)

my para 2 has served me well. i'd like a bit more blade for slicing larger fruit like oranges but other than that... honestly look at a bm 710. very underrated as a slicer

so, a fixed blade with no scales, which is thicker and shorter than good folders mentioned is somehow a better choice for food prep in what way exactly? it's not really adding up. unless you are strictly talking price, and for that an opinel is king, and much closer to what OP was apparently asking for.

going to assume OP was interested in folders, though he did not specify...

Why stop there? Get a mora and save some more cash. Or better yet get a 12" tram machete and save even more.

I've heard the rock lobster is pretty good but haven't used it. I have the millie and it works great. Not so wonderful on mincing but most pocket knives aren't.

Apparently you can't google BK 15...

I'm going to assume your rage is from my referring that Spyderco is not the only solution in life. Breathe Deeply, my son. Find your happy place...

I like your thinking. Moras are superb knives. Hard to work with a machete fileting a fish, but if you got the skills, more power to you. Both are great blades, though. See, you're freeing your mind already! Ain't it cool?

Opinels would be a great choice too! Great knives and nice and thin for slicing. A nice Old Hickory from Ontario just screams 'food prep!'.

Have you ever tried a spyderco in the kitchen?
