Good manufacturers' POS?

I would ssay that the one really great Ka-Bar international knife is the Dozier Ka-Bar Folding Hunter. I don't know about the rest of the Chinese line.

Emersons were my biggest disappointments. all three of my Emerson folders had the same issues. the locks wore prematurely (one didn't work to begin with) I hated the chisel grinds on the two Commanders, and I thought the steel was brittle.

I really really want a green mini-cqc7a. However, every time I pick an Emerson up, it dissapoints me. Either the blade is too tight or too loose, or it's not centered (yeah, I know it's adjustable, but it should be close to correct if NIB), or it looks like it has been assembled with missmatched parts (scales, liners, and spacer do not line up smoothly at all). The fit and finish is horrible. It's a shame, I like the idea of the Wave, I really like the way a Mini
CQC-7 fits my hand, I just can't spend $80+ on a knife that looks like it was assembled out of a bin of spare parts.

I still keep an eye out though. If I come across a good specimen, I'll probably buy it.

I picked up a SOG Blink last week at the local knife shop, and returned it the following day because I was unhappy with it. It was a fun knife to flick, but there was noticeable blade-play, the pocket clip was loose, and the "removeable" pocket clip screw was a smaller (T5?) Torx screw than the rest of the T6 screws on the knife. Why didn't they use a T6 for the pocket clip also? I actually went everywhere (Lowe's, Radio Shack, Sears, auto parts store, local hardware) looking for a T5 Torx driver, but had no luck. The only place I could find them was online, and I didn't feel like spending more money on drivers to adjust the knife, than I spent on the knife itself. I ended up returning it and getting a PE stainless Spyderco Dragonfly. Every Spyderco knife I get seems to exceed my expectations.

I kinda wish I had the same feelings about spyderco. Shame because alot of people love them, me on the other hand had nothing but freakin lemons.

I think you got a lemon.
I also bought a Blink last week, but mine has no blade play, and the clip, if anything, is too sturdy for a knife of its weight.
Not only is it well anchored, it's so strong and tight that I'm sure it will eventually wear through my clothes. Good thing my shorts aren't expensive...

I can no longer hold my tongue. A few months ago I decided I needed a neck knife with a skeletonized metal frame (the reasons escape me now). I considered a few knives, and ended up getting a MOD Scorpion. I think I chose the Scorpion because I had generally heard positive things about MOD, and I think some of their designs look neat. Plus, I didn't have any MODs (they are a bit pricey).

I have no complaints about the quality of the metal or sharpness of the blade (since I never cut anything with it). In fact, the tip was absolutely needle sharp and the edge bevels looked immaculate - as good as anything I have ever seen. However, the ergonomics were so bad, that I was literally afraid to use this knife. The top blade edge is serrated. Where the serrations end, the thumb rests begins, with absolutely no guard. This knife is a trip to the emergency room waiting to happen. If I had to draw this knife in a hurry for self defence, I'm not sure if I'd be more afraid of my attacker or my knife. The sheath seemed kind of cheap too, but at least it wasn't dangerous.

I gotta agree with Cosmic. The Schrade Lake & Walker 2 was a big dissapointment.Even bigger was the Lake & Walker 1 considering the suggested retail price which I think was around $200.Schrade was promoting this folder from 2 great knifemakers & pushing the BG 42 steel. The folder had Zytel handles and a framelock with a thin piece of titanium in the zytel lock. The fit & finish was horrible. The blade was dull as a butter knife. It had the quality of a $30 folder.

Funny story regarding Frost Cutlery. Lots of folks think Frost knives are junk, with good reason of course. Anyhoo, years ago a buddy had a Case Cane Cutter which looks like an old straight razor. He flat-out refused to sell it and I just HAD to have one. Looked high and low. Must have been a limited run or something. Finally ran across a Frost with jigged bone handles. It sported both a hawkbill blade and a cane cutter but was the closest thing I could find to what I was looking for. I snapped it up and put a decent edge on it. Carried that knife for a LONG time and put it through some severe use. It held it's edge well and performed way above and beyond the call of ANY slipjoint knife. No kidding. Great quality. I still have it, though I don't carry slipjoints anymore. Without a doubt, it is the finest knife I've ever seen with the Frost logo on it. I'd post a pic but I'm a basic member. Urgh!

Harry..

you can easily post pics on any forum. Here is the code.

"
" make shure there is no spaces, or " "between the
and the address which you put in between those. Grrr maybe doesnt make sence to you cause I dont even know if what I wrote does...:D

It makes sense, but I don't have a reliable web hosting site from which to lauch the pic. Oh well.

By the way, I've never seen a "bad" Spyderco. You must have a real flair for purchasing lemons. heh heh heh...:) Every Spydie I've ever handled has really surprised me, quality wise. I just can't figure out how they can sell such awesome knives at such affordable prices.

Cheers.

Speaking of Frost Cutlery knives...

Several years ago, I had a Frost Cutlery slipjoint, a smoothbone scaled canoe. The fit and finish was excellent. It had great walk and talk and the blades were nice and tight. It even held an edge well. That Frost spoiled me on Canoes from any other company. I haven't found one yet that could compete on fit and finish. The best part was the price. It was all of $15.

Hey Chris, maybe we should start a thread entitled "Quality knives from companies that normally sell crapola". :D
