recently i posted asking for a good folding knife design, only to find out its not illegal to carry a fixed blade unconcealed, so for that reason, i think a neck knife might be a better choice.
my needs

6 inches overall tops

preferably spear point tip

carbon steel

single piece of metal

the gossman psk seems to be the best choice, but i am willing to go over the affordable type pricing, so all recommendations welcome.

The Gossman looks like a really nice knife, but I have never handled one and cannot say much about it other than that. A lot of other people who do have them say good things about them, though.

I can say that if you can hack the wait, the RAT Cutlery neck knife is going to be coming out in a while, and it is a very nice knife. Was fortunate enough to get one of the prototypes they gave away. It is the only neck knife that I have personally handled that I liked, it's actually my favorite design for a small fixed blade. The production version looks like it will be even nicer.

the gossman PSK's are awesome... i've had mine for a few years now... i love it... i am rarely in the woods without it..

they're crazy sharp too... the O-1 throws some mean sparks from a firesteel...

here's a few pics to pump you up even more...:D

Wait another month or so for the RC izula. Thats what I'm doing. The PSK is a great knife as well from what I hear.

The Gossman is a great choice but can I also suggest the SwampWarden....

Awesome little necker !!!!

I just got a prototype RAT Cutlery Izula in a drawing and it's awesome! You could wait for that, but it's not a spearpoint.

That being said, I have had my eye on a PSK and I'm planning to pick one up in the future.

i like the mikro canadian, but i specifically said i would prefer the knife a single piece of metal.

Buck kaala - cheaper alternative but similar size to Izula and swampwarden, just a thinner (blade width not thickness) profile. Also, the Fehrman through hiker. Looks more heavy duty than the others.

All the above (Gossman PSK; RatCutlery Izula; Kaala; Ferhmen) would be up to the task and are large enough to do some real slicing.

I wouldn't really rule out the slabbed neck knifes. Go back a few pages on this sub-forum and you will find the necker posts. Some of the slabbed neck knives can be really thin. Benchmade, Bark River and the Fallkniven WM1 are some good alternatives.

depending on the time frame here shortly Rat Cutlery will be releasing the Izula,it is going to be freaking Sweet !!

Where did the name IZULA come from?

The locals in Peru call the meanest, nastiest ant of the jungle by the name "Isula." We know it as the Bullet Ant. The Bullet Ant is known to be independent, tough, light on its feet, and a real aggressive survivor - the IZULA knife is built the same way. This knife is designed to be the perfect lightweight survival kit or neck carry knife.

It would be tough to do better than the PSK or SW. If left with a plain handle the Warden feels a bit better in my hand but I still carry my PSK more often.

I'm lucky enough to have both the Gossman PSK and RC IZULA (prototype).

Both are great knives and either one would serve you well. Scott (Gossman Knives) and the guys at Rat Cutlery are awesome to deal with as well.

gossman psk is at the top of my list, but im always welcome to any recommendations as long as they meet the needs above.
