What's a good nessmuk knife to get? I've been eyeing the condor tool nessmuk, but may want something custom. I've had my eye on theses for a while due to the history behind and my ever growing obsession with old style blades.

Any input is awesome.

Thanks guys!

I've heard the Condor is a good one, it has been on my radar for awhile, too. It may be possible to modify something like an Old Hickory "buffalo skinner" or "sheep skinner" or cabbage knife or 7 inch butcher knife to a Nessmuk. I know a lot of folk use the butcher knife and modify it into a Kephart knife.

I would love to modify my old hickory butcher into one but I don't have the proper tools to do so. It could be done, but I don't think it would turn out properly without a grinder or dremel, both of which I don't have.

The condor might be my next purchase. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

The Grohmann #4 Survival knife (top) is "Nessmukish"....

I never handled one, but based on the design, size, looks and reviews, I wouldn't hesitate in getting the L.T. Wright version.
In fact, I might get the very same knife soon...

As much as I would want both of those, the L. T. Wright and the grohmann the condor price point is better for me. My gf keeps getting mad at me for spending money on a new knife each week ha. Don't you love that.

Maybe I'll buy another old hickory and try my luck at modifying it with the tools I have, and for the price,8 can get a condor as well!

Thanks guys,

Appreciate the fees back, makes me want to go spend some monies!

I really really really enjoy my JK pocket muk. Such a wonderful knife.

Old pic, I'll have to snap a new one.

From what I've seen, there are not many production versions of the Nessmuk knife out there.
Maybe you could get the Condor to try out the pattern, and then if you like the pattern you can save money (or sell a couple) and get a higher end version ;)

Love the stag on that muk knife. What's the price point on the JK knives? Can't seem to find a website

Boker Plus makes a folding muk knife designed by Jerry Fisk, called the Fiskmuk. Well heat-treated 440C steel, a good knife, 3⅞"closed.

Probably my favorite interpretation of the Nessmuk. Andy Roy at Fiddleback Forge.

Here's one that is probably not what you are looking for but I've never posted a pic of it before. Made by Ariel Salaverria of Buenos Aires. Weighs in at half a pound less the sheath.

Thanks! The handle was done by Mykel M, I won the knife in a GAW he hosted some time ago. The prices for JK knives are very reasonable. They really are great knives. Great steel and excellent heat treat. His website is JKhandmadeknives.com. He also has a sub forum here, you can click the link in my signature. Good luck on your hunt to find a good nessy!

And that's a beautiful fiddleback McVeyMac!!

Thanks guys for the knife info! I want all of them. Now i may have to save and get a handmade one!

Matt Lesniewski would be my first choice if I was going with a custom Nessmuk. I love mine.

Other than the one I made, my Fiddleback and Ariel Salaverria nessmuks are my favourite from any maker! And lo and behold my top two knives are posted back to back! I'll see if I have pics as most of my knives are still in storage from my June move.
