Well, after reading about the Manix here I went ahead and got one. Came in the mail today. It's great--fits my hand perfectly. I love it.

The bad news is that I lost my big blue ox. Her name is Babe. If you see her, drop me a line.

Seriously, I can't believe how big the Manix is. I kind of wonder about exchanging it for a Mini-Manix, because I can't see carrying this thing. On the other hand, it's so fantastically made I want one of each...

What do you Manix owners use yours for? And how many of you EDC the Manix?

Curiously,

Gus

I did for a long time ( few months ) well long for me. Mine is a mini manix though. Sweet knife for sure. Have fun beating the F#@! out of it

I generally carry my Manix clipped in my LF pocket. It gets used for a lot of things, some of which it was even meant for. It is a workhorse of a knife. Probably Clydesdale.

The "Mini"-Manix really isn't very mini. I find the full size fits my hand better. With the Mini, I find myself gripping it at the finger choil, or my fingers feel slightly crowded.

I posted a couple of in-hand pix of the two in a thread called Manix pics in January

To tell the truth, ever since I got my CF Military, I don't carry my Manix anymore. I will keep it just in case but the CF Military has made it seem too heavy for me. I also went ahead and bought a regular G-10 Military because I like the CF so much. It is wierd, I used to have a G-10 Military but I got rid of it because I didn't like how big it was. Now I think it is one of the best large knives out there and with it's light weight, it makes a great SD or outdoors knife.

Sometimes the old designs are the best designs. I am also regaining respect for the FRN classics like the Delica and the Centofante 3-4

Thanks for the input, everyone (especially for clearing up the Babe the Blue Ox reference--this just seemed like Paul Bunyan's knife). Thanks especially for the comparison pics of the Manix and the Mini. I'll probably keep the Manix and think about the Military or Paramilitary for the next indulgence... er, vitally necessary tool purchase :).

I love my Manix and carry it every chance I get. It rides well in carpenter jeans in the lower side pocket.

I've been edc'ing one since their release, on and off duty. The weight has never given me any problems, fits nice in the pocket. The Manix is one of the best designed knives to come out in the last decade IMHO.

I EDC mine. It fits my pocket well, I usually wear fairly heavy-fabric cargo shorts.

Try carrying it a few days, see how you like.

I carry mine RFP in my jeans very frequently. As a matter of fact, was my EDC for the entire last week. Because of the fairly high ride, I think it carries actually quite comfortably.

Kind of torn on which one to get now. I have a chinook II which I find solid and not too heavy to carry. I have a 610 which is like a brick to carry if you're wearing the wrong pants. my 806 doesn't really count cause I don't carry it. Don't like D2.

What are the advantages of the Military over the manix? Isn't that manix more solid with that thick lockback over the military liner lock? A better edc?

I have the Mini and it's too big for me to pocket carry. It rides in my trekking pack. It is a heck of a strong knife.

The Para is easier to carry, but does stick out of the pocket a good bit.

:)

The Military is narrower when closed, so it takes up less pocket space, making it easier to reach past if you carry anything else in the same pocket. The Military is quite a bit lighter, saving you some weight (and remember, pounds are made up of ounces - shave off enough ounces and you have saved pounds). The Military also has a bit more cutting edge than the Manix, and is easier to operate with heavy gloves on.

The lockback on the Manix is stronger than the liner lock on the Military, but the Mili's liner lock is far from weak. The blade is a bit thicker on the Manix as well, making it somewhat stronger, but neither of these knives is an axe. Overall, I carry the Manix more often than the Military, but it also fill more of an extreme beater role than the Mili, which does more kitchen duty than the Manix.

So if i wanted a tough, do all, edc which would I want? I like the length and slimmer profile of the military but I like the lock on the manix. My chinook II is a tank and I've always felt confident with it. Its just the blade shape can be hard for everyday tasks but I still carry it when I need something I can have no doubts of performance. My 806 is kind of small and I don't like the D-2. Lock seems solid enough.

Want to get a new Spyderco for that edc for the next 10 years but not sure which.

If you want a knife that will stand strong for that long, get the Manix. The lockback is a very reliable lock. I have some old Buck 110's that are over the 35 year old mark and are still going strong.

Make sure your pockets are tight to the body, otherwise, the heavy thing will lean and catch on everything

I dont like to carry knives in my pocket, so I removed the clip and I carry it on my belt in this $4.95 BassPro.com sheath (shown below) which is made in China  but well constructed. The sheath that came actually has large gold colored embroidery on it advertising some nonsence. I took a black perm marker to it so that the words are obscured. In addition to not wanting to draw attention to what's on my belt, it always bothered me to pay money for something and be a walking advertisment...
