Good oil to protect non-stainless blades from rusting

No problems at all. I just need to make some quesadillas soon.

Well, at least quesadillas will cure your issues, I think mine are incurable. Speaking of quesadillas, that sounds real good. My Takeda is dancing in joy at the thought of chopping up some fixings for some good Mexican food.

Shave some bees wax into the mineral oil, heat until the wax melts. Stir it up. It stays in solution and is supposed to last longer than pure mineral oil. This is what I use with no problems.

As an update, this steel gets very sharp pretty easily. I cut up a lot of cardboard, some plastic bottles and some rope to dull it to not shaving. It still cut well due to being so thin, but it needed to hit the stones. Also, no signs of corrosion at all with only wipe downs as maintenance.

DMT Coarse leaves it popping hairs. Spyderco medium gets it tree topping. Spyderco Fine gets it cutting free hanging hairs and doing some hair whittling. Spyderco Ultra Fine gets it to whittle hair very nicely. Pretty impressive for me, especially since I'm sore and tired from hitting the gym. Usually I have to hit the 3M lapping films to get a blade this sharp, and surprisingly there were no issues with burring on the ceramic stones like I have had with ZDP 189, so I didn't have to break out my waterstones. Eventually I will hit it with the 1 micron and .3 micron lapping films to see how well it takes to a really polished edge. I'm guessing it will be really impressive when polished up like that, though the very good sharpness at the DMT Coarse finish makes me very happy, since that will be a working edge that should last a really long time.

For my carbon steel knives, I just dry them, then wipe them down with Tuff Cloth. Then I put them in a plastic bag with a dessicant packet, but that's just me being cautious.

Just clean it after using and be sure to dry thoroughly. It's not like O-1. Mr. K can put a terrific edge on a blade :) His edges are easy to touch up.

I use laxative grade mineral oil. Kid-tested/mother-approved/inexpensive/food-safe. That's one beautiful Ultimate Caper you've got there, gunmike1!

That is more than we needed to know about what keeps you lubed up! LOL

OTO, that IS one beautiful knife!

CONGRATS !!!!

Do a search on Ballistol.
It protects metal, is good for wood and leather too and as a side benefit, it is food-safe. It has done fine for me.
