For the last few months I've spent hundres of dollars on all these fancy knives from spyderco and BM, but in the end, I just can't live without my good ole trustworthy SAK, the victorinox soldier. Of course, I absolutely LOVE these great knives from BM and Spyderco and love to carry and use them, but there have been way too many times where I needed a screwdriver or something and could do nothing about it. So, I've permanently gone back to EDCing a SAK.

Do any of you guys share the same feelings as me?

Feel the exact same way. Great knives for the price IMHO!!!

Vic Farmer (and my Mora)

I have a Vic Soldier coming for Christmas. It's been awhile since I got a new knife so I'm looking forward to the 25th. :) Hopefully I'll enjoy the Soldier as much as everyone else.

A B.M. or a Reeve sees all my quick cutting but I also edc a Vic. champ, used it twice today.

Usually EDC a Strider or CR sebenza, but I am looking at a multi tool and the Vic swisstool or spirit seem very nice! The start of a new addiction to red? :D

Either a Spyderco Endura/Delica or a Strider SnG, but if camping or on a trip I always take my Victorinox Trekker.

I recently picked up a Victorinox Farmer. Blade and reamer work great on leather, saw will be handy for the bush/yard work, bottle opener is especially good for the holidays...not used the can opener yet but i've been really into making pasta recently, and that involves cans of diced tomato (using the electric opener is a f@&#ing battle)... Keyring keeps keys handy too.

I do own an Outrider and silver alox Secretary as well, but they don't see alot of pocket time for some reason.

tarmix101, that combo seems close to perfect for the price, nice set.

A few years ago I bought a Spartan for a camping trip simply because I wanted a can opener and bottle opener and it's been SAK carry ever since.

RedSox,
I share your feelings but settled on a somewhat different solution to the problem. I carry both. Gotta have screwdrivers and gotta have a cutting blade, else I feel naked and unprepared for the world.

So I carry a SAK classic, a LM micra, and a lockback.

Years ago I EDC'd a Tinker. But I like real screwdriver blades that reach into crevices and have square corners so they don't slip. The Micra gives me those. Never use the tweezers. They suck.

The SAK classic gives me a quick little pry bar, toothpick, and tweezers.

The Spyderco or BM give me cutting power, which I prize.

A sure way to damage o good knife is to use it for the wrong purpose like as a screwdriver. I love my multi tools and my little SAK classic or my Micra, is always close at mand for those times when A blade just won't "CUT IT".

Vic. Classic
small folder (which can be a slippie or a SAK like my Bantam)
large one-hander (Sebenza, Spydie Military, Kershaw Storm II)
and a Vic. Ranger or Craftsman in my gear bag.
-- I like variety. :D

Yes, the Soldier is allways in my pocket.( along with a Spydie Stretch or a RAT folder in the other pocket) It can do so many things a big folder can't. In fact, for 99% of your daily chores, the Vic. Soldier is enough.
I also like the look and feel of this little knive

I always carry at least one SAK (Farmer,Hiker,Spirit) and my Sebenza.
And when I get out into the woods,I'll add a CRK ShadowIII or my Fällkniven H1.
Definately can't beat a SAK.......,one of the best knives out there!!!

I always carry a sak, often times I add another folder to the line up but the sak is a constant. My favorite sak is the fieldmaster.

I carry 3 "knives" :)

SAK Huntsman

Leatherman Charge

CRKT m21-4

All get used for there intended purpose...

I love SAKs, in fact I really appreciate any highly functional inexpensive knife. Latest purchase a GSAK. Saw came in handy the first time out hunting. I have probably a dozen SAK, I keep 'em in shaving kits, hunting bags, emergency kits, glove boxes. The alox handled ones, I have the Pioneer Rancher, seem really stout...the perfect garden knife - cut chives and parsley for the crab dip(x-mas party tonight) this morning.

Other knives in the function over form catagory are the Moras and Frosts... e.g. a Swedish Army in Sportmans Guide for $10 with a carbon steel blade. Don't get me wrong, I want a handmade hunter from Mr B. Watson for Christmas from my wife. Though I will use this knife hunting, knives like that don't get thrown in and ride around in the truck box 24x7x365. They are there when you need them.

Also, my EDC is a Boker Barlow or Case Mini-Trapper, but a SAK is always near by or in addition to.

PS what is a Gecko? My searches didn't find anything...
