Good ole SAK

Raoul is correct in that the knife in my avatar is the "Gecko" knife that I made mention of. It is a Matt Cucchiara Mini Scrapper "Gecko" knife. Thanks Raoul, it is my favorite knife. Here is a link to Matt Cucchiara's site.

For years I carried a SAK Tinker model. Lost it. Started carrying other smaller knives. In the last year or so, I picked up a SAK Soldier and have been very pleased with it for EDC. I'm no knife fighter and most of those that carry the assisted opening knives for protection are fooling themselves. I often carry two knives these days, the SAK Soldier and a little light Gerber that I picked up at Lowes. Sometimes carry a SOG Blink instead of the Gerber for the fun of it. But I have no intention of using any knife in a fight. If my life is in danger, out comes a gun. Has a bit better reach than any knife I know of.

Many of those carrying a knife for SD would be in violation of the law if they carried a gun.

Owning a business with lots of equipment gives a lot of use for knives. I have a Vic Mechanic always with me. Its used mainly for the tools, but the blade is used some. A Leatherman k502x on my belt for the really heavy work and main cutting blade. Also, some for sentimental reasons, but I really do like this little knife...a yellow handle CV blade Case Sodbuster Jr.

Oh, a Smith & Wesson 45 ACP for self defense.

For the office, it's a Vic deluxe tinker for me. On the weekend, it's a Vic swisstool. You're right -- Vic SAKs are a product of superior engineering (ergonomics, materials, design, manufacturing -- the whole ball of wax), with a high functionality/cost ratio.

But . . . the sebenza's always in my pocket as well. :)

A SAK is certainly a great friend to keep with you. I like SAKs with wood saws. My favorite is the Alox Electrician Plus. I also like the Swisstool Spirit.

Like many of you, I tend to have a knife with better steel handy too. Usually a Spyderco. But if I had to, I could make it from now on with an Electrician Plus alone.

:)

I always have a SAK classic on my keyring + my EDC.

When in the woods, it's always SAK climber + something else.

Some things never change I guess.
