I used to use the fly from our old tent; it's now trash.
Tried a urethane coated poncho- something I kept for emergency use; but never needed. It leaked; it stinks like ? and imho too small for a comfortable night, and just plain cramped up feeling when pitched low.
I've started to think a "shaped" tarp will be superior to a plain old flat sheet. True, a flat sheet offers multitude versatility- but how much is that used? Either you need shelter or you dont.
If you need a bivvy or bug net; weight and cost are added to the reltively inexpensive sil flat tarps? I havent pulled the trigger but I've narrowed the choices down to one. 6 moons wild oasis.
