Does anyone know of any good places to camp in Georgia that are really remote. I like to go to the Red Top Mountain area most of the time. It has a lot of forest and lakeside stuff and it's not hard to find an area that's far away from everyone else. Unicoi (sp) is usually a little closer to everyone else than i like to be. The kind of places I like are where you aren't very likely to run into anyone else while camping/hiking other than in passing once in a while. I like the "alone in the wilderness" feeling.

+1 on Cohutta. Stay away from Jack's River during the summer if you don't like people though.

Go up wildcat creek to the end of the forest service road that follows it (8 miles). It is just south of Mocassin Creek State Park on the SW side of Lake Burton and north of Helen. When you think you have driven far enough up the FS road... keep going.

I love Wild Cat Creek. I forgot to meantion that place. That's an easy place to get "lost on purpose".

i love mocassin creek state park, we go there every winter...

that whole area is awesome through there

I wouldn't go near Helen during October though. Unless you like traffic I mean.

Fort Benning has a great camping program and they'll give you free gear and teach you how to jump out of airplanes. If they really like you, you can get an all-expenses paid vacation to Iraq too.

Good point, there are several very scenic road that you can go around Helen. I bypass when I go to the Lake Burton unless I am in need of fast food.
