Hey guys. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I need steel that is 8"w X 48"L X .25".

Also, does it need to be precision ground? I'll be having them cut by waterjet and I was hoping to just do the edge grinding, heat treat and then handles.

Right now the only steel I've found is New Jersey steel baron 52100. Not sure if it's flat enough though.

No, you are in the right place, and you specifically said full tang tomahawk. Someone should throw you a bone pretty soon.

Daniel Winkler is either currently or about to be using 80CrV2 for his.
I really like 4140 for them. I've seen some folks using plain carbon
steel like 1075. All should be good with proper geometry an heat treatment.

Thanks for the info. Does it need to be precision ground or is it ok the way it comes? Can you suggest some other companies that sell plate steel? I'm having trouble finding other options. Thanks!

Call Aldo Bruno at newjerseysteelbaron.com and tell him what you want to do. Just about every knifemaker uses his steel and he even has a waterjet.

Thanks for the advice guys. One more question. Who will heat treat 4140? According to their website Peters doesn't do 4140.

Peters probably does, they don't list everything on their site. They did a bunch of 5160 for me, and that's not on the list either.
