Rob,
Thanks again for your help in the class. And many thanks to Walt, Bucky and Dave for teaching such a great class; it was fantastic. I finally turned the corner from beating good steel into scrap to actually forging a knife. Looking forward to see you and meeting some of the other smiths at Blacksmith Days. -Doug

Could be worse. Could have been some scrawny little weasel like you! :D

Had a really good class. EIther our teaching is getting better, or the students are getting better. We were ahead of schedule all weekend, no blades cracked in HT, nobody cracked anything while forging, no major repair jobs to be done (there's usually one..), etc. When I get some pics from the other instructors I'll post some.

You guys are just jealous cuz I'm built like a runway model.

There isn't any doubt in my mind that you'd make a great teacher, Dek... your disposition and approach are just right for such things. The article seems to intone that, as well. Kudos!

George, wish I could make it out to your place this time... I miss the food!

Pale and flatchested?

Thanks for the kind words folks. I'm hoping in a couple of years to do a more "advanced" course than the introductory one we do now. It's great to get people into and interested in knifemaking, but due to time constraints and the average level of experience in the students, we have to keep it simple and gloss over a lot of important info. If I could bring some of the students back after they've gone their own way and done some more work, I think we could teach a lot more.
