Good pricing for a custom knife?

Also Bona has some amazing deals in the for sale thread in the exchange at the moment

I've bought customs for, TK,Spencer, and Allan Warren. I'm very picky and couldn't find a flaw on any of them. Let one of these guys make you a knife and you will be very happy.

We really are very fortunate to have so many good makers here.

If damascus/pattern weld steel is your thing, also look at Dan Graves' work. Matt Bailey is another.

There are of course many other makers who also do fantastic work, either in damascus or single steels. I have purchased about 20 to 30 knives from our custom makers and am yet to see one that I haven't been happy with.

Personally, I would not entertain such knives. There's lots of production knives that cost HALF of that which would make those knives pale in comparison in both quality and aesthetics. Buck Knives, Boker, Fox Knives, SOG, Colt, ESEE... and list goes on and on and on. Damascus to me is not even an option. I can't stand the looks of it, it does NOT even look like proper steel. It's another passing fab that won't last and looks quite hideous to me. Hamons are another thing, as is laminates like San Mai, those are PROPER steel and they LOOK IT. Damascus looks like a dual colored Plasticine.:D

Go for a REAL knife if you ask me.

Thank you, I agree completely. I own many handmade knives, not a damascus among them. Damascus gets more hideous every year as makers triy to out do each other to see who can make the wildest pattern.

Id decide what you are willing to spend on a knife and then go spend that money on some tools to make knives with. Having a custom knife is all fine and dandy but when you can add "I made it" into the conversation it feels and means a whole lot more.

I agree, Dan Graves and Matt Bailey are two guys who come immediately to mind, for skillfully forged knives at very reasonable prices.

No offense, but that is the worst advice ever. :D

I did this a few years back, and I'm $10,000 in tools and equipment now. Just buy what you want.

I second that! I would have been money ahead years ago if I'd have just bought a Fisk, Fuegen, or Hancock like I wanted to!:D

But, then again, I would have missed out on a lot of fun:cool:
