I was thinking about buying a combination of spyderco tenacious, for more hard-core cutting, and a benchmade monochrome for less intense use. Together it's just under 70$. What do you reccomend for a single knife for around that price range? Nice but also very sturdy.

Hi 31hobo13 -

One of the very best values on a high-quality knife is a Kershaw Blur Composite blemish from kershawguy -

You can find his post on that here :

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=602230

It is the item 1670BRNZDP. You can plug that model number into google to see pictures of one -

There are many other crazy deals there - that blur for instance retails for $139.99 - I have two and I could not find one blemish either knife.

best regards -

Welcome to the forums

For $70 or less, there a ton of knives to choose from.

Benchmade: Griptilian

Kershaw: Junk Yard Dog, Blur, I think the G-10 Tyrades are around this price

Spyderco: Endura, Delica, Native

Boker: M-type, Exskelibur

I hope this helps, J.

I would rather have a Delica than the Tenacious but that's just me. A Delica or an Izula would both be good one knife edc's.

Buck Vantage Pro

Has Buck addressed the blade centering issue yet to you guy's knowledge on this knife?

I was going to buy one the other night and when I googled it with a few different terms I got a lot of forum beefing about the blades being way off center.

These posts were about a year old + or -.

PS: +1 on the Izula if the sheath is right - like one from hoopster. I honestly have it in my pocket now and have never taken it out except to change pants, since I got that kydex sheath - what's that - about 3 mos. now Eric? :)

best match that comes to my mind, is the Izula from ESEE knives. Tons of bang for the buck. I cannot think of any folders i would speak of in that price range other than SAK.

I am sure thats just my preference, so check out some of the folders mentioned.

It's a slim, simple package that will always get the job done. I'm glad you're happy with it.

Some may not like them but I like the CRKT M16 series. Great knives for the money and most M16's can be bought for under $70. The steel used my not be the latest in "high tech" steels, but CRKT uses decent steel. And the "Lawks" double locking system is very comforting when having to misuse the knife. I've seen plenty of liner / frame lock knives fail over time and use. The "LAWKS" system prevents this.

Find a sale thread here on Bladeforums. Buying from dealers is a waste of money most of the time. I don't buy from a dealer unless the model is new and hard to find (and I have hot nuts for it, which is rare but DOES happen sometimes), or a model is on closeout and marked way down. Otherwise, I haunt the for sale forum here on Bladeforums. Deals abound. Make an offer and get an even BETTER deal most of the time. Just last night I PM'ed a dude that had a bunch of Spydies for sale. I picked out three that I wanted and made an offer (it was low-ballish). He PM'ed me back with a counter offer. A deal was struck and now I've got three Spydies inbound for a price that a dealer couldn't touch in a million years. Don't pay retail. Ever. :)

You can get a Spyderco FRN Stretch or Manix 2 just at your price if you "shoppe" around.

If you have an open mind to fixed blades, I'd get the izula.

That thing is worth it's weight in gold.

RAT-1 folder. Steel liners, aus-8 and flat ground drop point. Look around there are dealers here on the forums with them for around 30$. (TKAZ comes to mind)
Probably the best bang for the buck around, I have paid 3 times that for lesser knives sadly.

Bump that budget up to around $77 shipped and give the Spyderco Manix 2 a look from Cutleryshoppe. Built like a tank, G!0 scales, caged ball lock, made in the USA and uses 154CM steel for under $80 delivered.
