Good Reliable Watch

I've got a few g shocks that I wear to workout or mow the yard but my Seiko SKX007 is my everyday watch. It is great and gets lots of compliments. If you go with g shocks I like the non solar mudman.

I got g-shock about year ago, and I've had it on every day. I love it!
It's the most comfortable watch I've ever had, and has shown absolutely no sign of weakness sofar.

I'll add a +1 to that. I have a mudman and i've put it through some harsh enviroments and it hasn't missed a beat yet! You can't go wrong with a g-shock but the hard part is picking the one that suits the things you do.

Casio Pathfinder
I have two of the Casio Pathfinders. Each is loaded with gadgetry such as thermometer, barometer, calendar, timers, compass, etc. While the gadgets may not be as accurate as other dedicated instruments, they will do in a pinch, and the time is updated via satellite each day.
I have found them to be well worth the approximate $200 price tag.

I had one of these a few years ago, I found it to be an excellent watch. The compass was perfectly accurate when aligned with my Sunto. The thermometer was never quit right as your body temp would always throw it off.

I have a mudman to, great, tough watch, has been in a few seas, lots of lakes, snow, has hit many things around, but still going strong
Highly recommended

A Seiko Monster might be good for you. And if you want something a little funky with lots of character, a Vostok Amphibia would be good too. I have one on my wrist right now and it is great.

casio g-shock 6900 series...... tough as nails ...not overly expensive which means if you trash it it isn't a big loss...love mine only watches i buy.... I am not a flashy guy.... so a fancy watch doesn't make sense to me.

Everybody has Seikos, Casios, and Citizens. If you want a real nice watch made by an excellent, but small company, look at the Orient Planet Orient, which is an automatic semi-skeleton.

Orient isn't small, they've been around for a long time and are a subsidiary of Seiko.

Nobody has brought up Rolex, so I will. I learned how to tell time on one given to me by my father in 1964. It had no numbers on the dial, so I learned from the positions of the hands. To me a necessary lesson, relating to positions, for knowing what direction to look when somebody says look on your 9 or 6 or whatever.

Now the important part about a Rolex is the reliability. The better ones are self winding. All of them are incredibly rugged. A Rolex might not keep the exact, perfect time, but they will be repetitive. That is to say mine gains 7 seconds in 24 hours, every 24 hours. So, that is reliable. In so much as, you can navigate with it. By using a Greenwich chart, a sextant, a compass and a watch/chronometer. My dad was a sailor and actually did this. The ship's clock had a log of the error factor and that's all one needed to calculate their exact time. He told me he could put a point on a chart/map by doing the math and have the ship be in a circle of 5 miles on the chart/map and this was good enough as one could see a mast at that distance.

Another point to mention is one can keep a good Rolex Chronometer for life and then hand it down. Chances are very, very good one won't stop when your life depends on it.

I detest battery operated stuff.
