Anyone know of some good places to purchase sutures, quick clot and other First aid essentials. I'm looking to make my camping, vehicle and home first aid kits more complete. It would be great if I can find a site that has it all to avoid paying shipping from multiple places.
Thanks.

I looked around a lot and in the end I found it was cheaper piecing it out on ebay- lot of vendors offer free shipping (or reduced shipping if your purchase multiple items)

almost always cheaper to buy in bulk, I had good luck selling what I didn't need

either that or consider some kind of group buy

I've dealt with Chinook Medical as well as Moore Medical and Bound Tree Med and they have all been great to deal with. If you're in Canada, I can't recommend Kevin Jones at Odyssey Medical highly enough - truly professional and goes the extra mile always...

Allmed. They are all I use for med stuff. Been ordering from em for 5 years now, and never a problem. They also supply our ambulance district, and several others in the area. Great CS.

Other then that, I do most of my shopping at the ER. ;)

http://www.narescue.com for general supplies and Black Talon gloves which are pre-bundled and can be adhered to all sorts of items. I'm tried of pullling gear and Nitrile gloves come flying out of pouches etc. These gloves are bundled and banded, then can be taped to gear so they are "there when you need them" but not in the way or flying all over the place.

Israeli Battle Dressings (Emergency Bandages) from www.ofagear.com. Ever piece of kit has at least one dressing.

tacticalresponsegear.com has a lot of what you're looking for. Their VOK is a very good deal if you're needing a good, compact, trauma kit.

They also offer some really outstanding training.

are you trained in the use of quikclot?

Not that I know of. It's just something I put on my list of things to look into at one time. The only first aid training I have is from USMC boot camp about 17 years ago. :(

^ see if you can get some training with the quikclot, there can be issues with using it. A lot of ER docs get pretty pissed off when someone comes in with quikclot in a wound, it can be hell to clean out. Sometimes good ol gauze pads and roll gauze is best.

that being said , quick clot has its place.

Thanks, I'll definitely do more research before making any purchases.

Well said Bushman5, well said.

Its good for those wounds that just wont close up, such as a leg wound with artery severed, GSWs, etc....But always remember your basic skills folks. Start with direct pressure, increasing through the spectrum of wound management before you get to quickclot as an option. Quickclot has saved lives. Its a great product, when used appropriatly.

In addition to preparing a kit, seek knowlage!!!! A basic first aid class, and BLS class will teach you alot. I wrote a couple writeups on the subject of wounds and Burns awhile back that you should read.....Lots of good info came out of those threads. Ill dig em up and link em here for ya.

I buy a lot of my gear from bestglide.com. They provide survival and medical gear for bush pilots and their prices v. variety are pretty good.

They have been my supplier as I used to travel frequently to third world locations and I always brought my own suture kits, syringes and basic survival kit from them.

I have ordered all of my things from Chinook Medical and First Aid Monster. Chinook is good for things like quikclot, syringes, tourniquets, chest seals, blow out kits, those kind of things, while First Aid Monster is great for bandaids, gauze, that sort of stuff.

Bushman, you're right on the button with the quick clot. All the ER docs and ER RN's and Combat Medics I train with all say to use the Israeli Battle Dressing for as a dressing, compressive bandgage and tourney if needed and to stay away from quick clot. They said if your several days away from help that is one thing but if you're minutes, hours or even a day away then use the IBD. Besides some medics have relied solely on the Quick clot and it didn't work and then they had to improvise because they didn't have a back up.

I keep quick clot around but my primary go to in the IBD which is being issued to the troops and they carry them around in a BDU cargo pocket. The IBD can be adminstered with just one hand!

The Ashman Chest Seal was hard to find for a while and now very abundant. Also the Chest Decompression Needles were hard to find for tension pneumothorax but you can get them thru the website I listed above.

What is hard to find is Sutures...and affordable Sutures! I checked out all the links provided so far but no such luck. So if anyone has a recommendation where to find them please post it here!!

my experience with the negs of quikclot comes from the doctor i worked with (alongside as part of the Code White team) in the ER, when i was a Guard in the lockdown unit of the ER. The doc had been all over the world with Doctors Without Borders, and vehemently explained to us why quikclot and other similar products piss off the ER/trauma docs so much. Post field clean up is a B****, it results in tissue separation, more bleeding, and the heat (from the OLD style of quiky) can cause tissue damage. I have ZERO experience on the NEW Quiky, so i cannot comment on that. The doc would tell us "Pressure Dressings men! use the goddamn pressure dressings and wound packers (cotton packing)! when i get one of these riflemen in with quiky in their holes, i have to WASTE my time cleaning it out when i could be extracting lead and closing wounds. Dont use that crap"

ornery ol cuss but he knew his poop :D

Moore Medical, BoundTree and Emergency Medical Products (buyemp.com)...I know EMP used to offer free shipping for orders over $100. I have worked for companies that have used all three and all had good service.
