good skeletonized all purpose knife

I'd say the KaBar Becker would suit you, out of those. You can buy clips from most art supply stores that you could probably rig up to a sheath.

P.S. Please don't throw the knife, it's just not good for it. Buy a set of cheap throwing knives for that, they're more fun anyway.

So you don't think the becker could handle being thrown occassionally? ....Is 1095 carbon brittle?

I do own quite a few throwers, some that serve double duty as regular users as well, including the cheep knife pictured in the beginning of this post, and over the last couple decades most have held up just fine.

I know throwing doesn't serve much of a real purpose, I just enjoy it, and I'm not too bad at it. :D

I'm sure it could handle it but, why? Throwing is fun, but use throwing knives for it.

Well it's because the point of this knife is that it will be the only knife on me. Carried when I know that I will be spending a good amount of time submersed in water, and likely wearing no more than shorts and water shoes. So since I will not have any other knives with me I need this one to serve a multitude of functions.

Not too much to ask I think, since the $20 knife I've been using this way for years has held up fine. I just want a similar knife that has a more traditional plain edged, flat ground blade. -and better edge retension would be nice as well. :)

But throwing it is absolutely pointless, it can't serve any practical purpose so why do it?
If you're going to be submerged in water, you should probably consider a dive knife instead.

Since you list some rougher uses you might want to look for a Swamp Warden or a Busse Game Warden without any scales (Not sure what it's called?). INFI is really tough steel.

The Spyderco Swick is a nice compact knife but it's one I'd only use for cutting, no digging, throwing or prying or you'd be likely to "modify" the tip profile.

Spyderco Aqua Salt isn't as flat of a profile as I think you're looking for, but it's TOUGH and stain PROOF. The stock sheath comes with a nice clip that works well on a variety of pants or pack straps. You might be able to sand down the handle to your liking as it's just FRN.

Fehrman Thru-Hiker. A bomproof little skeleton of great quality.

I would say the Fehrman Thru Hiker. I have had zero rust issues with the edge, but I spray WD40 on the edge once a week just in case.

Just to give my 2 cents. I have dipped my Ka-Bar USMC (with my self ) basicly every possible places from Baltic Sea and swamp water to Laplands rivers. I've never had issue with rust even its 1095... But I've always kept slight coat of oil on my carbon blades.

Water is by no reason not to get carbon steel. It just needs bit more attention and care than your stainless ones. To me carrying bit oil and cloth for keeping my carbon blades in oil coat in woods is no problem. It takes few seconds to apply coat on blade.

hey what knife is that the one u said u have but want a new one to replace it

Sorry, I'm not sure what it's called, but it's made by United. I bought it about 9 or 10 years ago for around $20. It's not fancy but I beat the hell out of it, and it's held up great. I'm just ready to upgrade to something better to take it's place.

Hmm... when I was looking for that pic, I thought I saw some, but I see now that the links don't work.

I see combo-edged on a certain auction site, but no plain. :thumbdn:

Shoot me an email BryFry. You don't have any contact info available.

Hey Guyon, thanks for the help. I'm not too good with computer stuff and I haven't figured out how to do the contact info thing on this site. :o

-But anyway I think I just found the knife I've been looking for.......

THANK YOU! THIS IS THE ONE!!!

This will fit my needs very well, the only hard decision now is what color combos to choose for the knife and optional handle scales! :D

Thanks guys for all the great suggestions!
