good slicer that locks?

Good slicer? Here's my list:

  • Most of the flat ground EKA's, i.e. Sportsman, 88, Nordic T8
  • Fällkniven P, U,1, U2, TK3, TK4
  • Gerber 6252 GatorMate, flat ground ATS-34 blade
  • Opinel's and SAK's in general
  • A bunch of flat ground Spydies, i.e. Calypso Jr, early Jess Horn and Lum Chinese

To begin with :)

The Kershaw Leek is a pretty good slicer. Before I lost mine :( I used it in the kitchen all the time for slicing veggies and stuff, almost like a small kitchen utility knife.

I've pondered this question myself and have come up with a couple of options worth investigating:

-Al Mar Hawk/Eagle/Falcon line with the flat ground blades. The 3 models represent 3 different blade lengths. They have unlined Micarta handles and a lockback.
-Lone Wolf Harsey T2 Ranger. It has a 3.9" blade of flat ground S30V. It's available with tought plastic handles or attractive wood handles and has a liner lock.

My S30V Native slices great. Nice thin blade and all. I'm starting to become not such a big fan of the steel, though, as it seems to have some mild edge issues that my SAK or older carbon blades don't, but I guess I shouldn't complain, its still a good knife, especially for the money.

I've owned many and used a heck of a lot of knives, and these have been my best slicers...

Alaskan Guide Buck 110 from Cabela's
Custom Shoppe Buck 110 (with BG-42 steel)
Spyderco Pacific Salt
Spyderco FRN Goddard (discontinued model)
Spyderco Centofante 3
Spyderco Salsa (but I hate the Compression Lock)

Good luck,
Allen

I've found my CentofanteIII to be a great slicer, and it has great ergos and is very, very light. Another vote as well for the Opinel, you should get one even if it isn't your choice as a 'slicer'.
