You can get a good silva watchband compass from REI. This compass will cost $10.00 when it is not on sale. The bezel rotates and click locks, you also get a velcro watchband in the package. They are a liquid filled compass and very accurate.
For general rough direction finding while woods-running, not orienteering, I use a pin-on ball compass on my field bag. You can get these at sporting goods stores (and Wal-Mart) for less than ten bucks. If you want something small, they have a credit card sized one which fits in a wallet and has I think, other SAK-like functions. For a serious compass to use with a map, the flat see-thru protractor ones are inexpensive and relatively accurate. Silva, Brunton, etc, all of the well known companies make a wide variety to suit any budget/intended use.
"This is a beautiful reproduction of the tiny compass issued in many escape kits. Brass body, liquid filled, luminous dots on needle. Virtually indistinguishable from an original."
These plastic ones are available in quantities and can be had with discounts for larger orders. Brass ones are from a retailer but are exact copies of early RAF escape compasses.
How many of you would be interested in either of these?
The plastic one is the one being used in the NATO survival kits. Bulk orders brings the price down quite a bit.
If the demand is there I may be able to get some break on the SAS Re-Pro but that isn't as likely as it's nearly half the price as the Pyser made one from T.A.D. gear.http://209.128.78.210/x-treme%20gear/compasses%20main/sas_compass.htm
