So I've been doing a lot of reasearch into getting a disc sander. Right now I'm leaning towards the pheer 9" do to it having a 1hp motor and vfd the only thing that makes me think other wise is I would like to have a tool rest. I'm currently going to look into having some one water jet the plans that are floating around on the forum currently, but if I can't find a shop that's willing to do it at a fair enough price I'm looking at picking up the one trugrit.com offers. The catch there is its around $300 and I'd like to keep the whole price of the disc sander under a grand. I've looked at eBay for motors and controllers but didn't seem to like the selection, maybe I'm just being picky. Any insight would be helpful.

Thank you for reading

Automationdirect has low priced motors. Just keep in mind if you're getting a vfd, you need a 3 phase motor.

If you have an surplus or motor repair shops in the area, you might see what they have to offer. A used (or possibly never before used) 3 phase motor can often be found for next to nothing with a little searching around. Ebay has deals from time to time, though with so many people looking for the same kind of things, you don't always get the one your after, and often better deals can be found in "lower traffic" areas. I've seen motors on craigslist before for $50 or less, but it really depends on where you live.

VFDs are kind of another story. You can get a Chinese VFD for about $100 to $150, but you'll need to build a filtered enclosure for it. For a disc sander, a 1HP motor and VFD should be plenty, so you can also get a TEFC KBAC series VFD for about $250.

3 phase motors are readily available from HGR auctions on Ebay. They are mostly NIB and the price is very low.

Thanks for the input I really feel like an idiot at the moment I didn't even think of a motor repair shop and there is one literally one maybe 200 yards as a crowd Flys from my house I'll go see what they have.

Look at the TG92 at trugrit.

You can add your motor to that

I fixed it in the post and completely over looked the title thanks stack for pointing it out
