Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, but I was not sure where else to post it. A friend and I have just ordered 2 poll hawks from Coal Creek Forge, and we are uncertain of a good way to stain and finish the handles. since we will be throwing the hawks in all kinds of weather, we are looking for something that preserves the handles, as well as looks sexy. The picture posted is a good finish

i would use tung oil.

You can find it in hardware stores where they sell oil for hardwood floors. It penetrates well and seals the wood against moisture and oil. It also brings out the woodstructure
It a little expensive, smells a little and takes long to dry , but it works great.
Just check the label of those parket oils untill you find one with tung oil in.

I use this brand V33

I used some left over deck stain. Know any relatives or neighbors that built a deck lately? Sometimes it's hard to beat free.

Once you select the oil, the best thing to do is take a big mouthfull and lick the axe handle, Do Not Swallow! (but really, an old sock will be fine)
