good steel to start with? (stock removal)

I don't think you'll be sorry with somehting like 1075 or 1080. I adore my 1084 and an still ticked that it not as commonly available as it once was. Despite the fact I need more steel like I need another hole in my head I'm still tempted to buy more of it when someone offers it. On that note some good clean 1084 is available from one of the forum members (Aldo?) and also from Kelly Cupples.
 
I looked in the McMaster-Carr catalog at work last night and was surprised to see that their 1075 is more expensive than their 1095. Weird. I'll probably order from Admiral or Jantz or one of the guys that sells here.
 
Do they still offer a grade of O-1 called "Ready Mark?" That would be flat ground stock with the lay out dye pre-coated.
