Title pretty much says it. I'll be driving from Detroit to Dallas next week and have been thinking about maybe picking up an OTS auto along the way. Or at least I might check out a knife dealer or two if they aren't too far out of my way. Know of any interesting places?

If you’re taking I-70 Grand Prairie Knives is about 15 miles northeast of the intersection of I-70 and I-55. Just outside of St. Louis in Illinois.

Great place to visit. Most anything you see on their website is in the store and the staff are good people.

Sharp Things in OKC on N. May Avenue. It is a bit off of I-35, but there's a Dunkin' Donuts close by. They have a really good assortment of knives on hand, including auto knives. When I was there last summer they were very helpful, and happy to show me whatever I wanted. Parking is crappy right off of May, but I did it with a rental SUV. You'll still have about 3-4 hours (depending on where in Dallas and how fast you drive) left to go when you are done there. Enjoy!

That’s not too far from me and I didn’t know the place existed. I’m gonna have to take a trip out there and check it out!

It about an 85 mile trip for me one way. I was just there in late November.

Be sure to note their hours. They are closed on one of the weekdays. I think it’s Mondays but I’m not sure.

It’s probably adds 3 hours to the trip, but you could go to Smoky Mountain Knife Works in TN.

What the heck? I thought I posted a reply and a thank you, but apparently I never hit "send". I may not be qualified to be a knife owner, heh...

Anyway.... GP looks awesome and is right in my way! Looks like I'll be catching a glimpse of that big arch on my way home. Sharp things also looks great, though I probably won't stop twice. I guess that depends on if I leave GP empty-handed (doubtful!). SMKW too, but that's a bit of a detour and I already knew about them. Ordered my Deka from them a couple years ago. Love that knife.

Gotta mention too that this makes me a bit disappointed in my online shopping experience. As much as I've looked online for different places, I've never run across GP or Sharp Things before. BladeHQ and KnifeCenter dominate my searches far too much! I'm really glad I asked, got some great suggestions here. Thanks a bunch =)

Yep, website says they're open 9-5 Tues-Sat

Works out great for me, I'll wrap up my first day nearby then hit the store on Tuesday morning before heading home. 👍

Not sure where in Detroit you are stating from, but KnifeHub in Waterford (NW section of the metro area) has a pretty large selection. They have quite a few auto brands and stock a lot of different models. They have a nice used selection as well.

Another fine looking place to check out, thanks!

I like GPKnives. I hand picked my Sebenza there and upgraded to a graphic once I could see them in hand. They don’t give discounts for cash though.

Had a nice trip! I woke up way early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so by 9:00 when GP opens I was already halfway across Missouri. Maybe another time. Coincidentally, round about 9:00 I saw some signs for a big knife outlet store in Lebanon MO so I stopped in. They had quite a few there, but nobody behind the counter. Benchmades were at FULL LIST PRICE, so I wasn't very enthusiastic about shopping after I saw that. Did leave with some real nice Zwillings cookware though.... Odd place! It's like the Case knife factory storefront or something I guess? But they have all KINDS of random stuff in that place.

Ended up stopping at Sharp Things in OKC at about 2:00 and the guy behind the counter was super helpful. Asked me what kind of thing I was interested in and he let me play with all the cool toys. Some of them twice or even 3 times, haha. He was really patient. I ended up picking up this little Pro-Tech Newport. It's so small! I wouldn't have guessed from looking at a website. It's longer than my mini griptillian but way slimmer and a tiny bit thinner too. Disappears in my pocket, I like that. Man, it's a stabby one, I've never owned such a pointy blade.

It was a good day =)

The knife store in Lebanon is Shepherd Hills Cutlery.
