Tomorow I drive to Billings for a Doctor's appointment. I'm not really sure why. I'll stay overnight, as the next day they cut a peice out of my ear, and sew it inside my nose. I've no idea what my ear will look like, but there'll be a lump on the side of my nose.
This answers the question: How did I survive all these years? I didn't. There's so much scar tissue, probably from fists, acne, and blunt objects that the right nostril can't open much anymore. The cartilidge from the ear has a 50/50 chance of working- making a support that allows air passage through the weakened area.
Last time I went to this hospital I ran into an anesthesiologist with a rotten attitude. First surgery there- I actually awoke alert and smiling, right next to the operating room. Second- with this knowledgable clown, I was the last one in the recovery room to awaken. He'd been furious with me by not reporting a history of high blood pressure. That was a little difficult to report as I had none, then-
I don't think he did anything unethical- just gorked me probably.
I also have fond memories of the recovery room. There was an shot ordered they witheld, and then only gave half- I remained shivering and out of it on the bed for another 45 minutes or so. When this passed partially, they said, "see, you didn't need the other half of the shot." I'm sure someone there did after I'd left.
The doc's fine. If anyone can rebuild the damaged passage she can. The rest is just survivable.
We've had a lot of folks needing help around here, and to my mind, this isn't that high on the list. But I would like your help- any surgery is potentially a problem.
So Wednesday afternoon, I'll be appreciating it.
