Anyone have issues with an xm-18s lockup? I'm sick of ti framelocks that develope bladeplay in two weeks. Striders especially, I've even had issues with their new lockup. I think I'm gonna have to invest in a carbidizer.

My large Sebenza has months of use on it and is still solid. Maybe you should give that a go.

My Large Sebenza in solid in every way.
My Techno is built to Spyderco perfection, same with my Chokwe.
And my DPX H.E.S.T. locks up like a vault.

My sebbies' excellent in every way, Bluephin superb, three sisters forge Beast superb, and finally my Martin Tejas XL is SUPERB. keepem sharp

PS forgot my cheapie Blondie by UC is EXCELLENT too along with a knife called a District 9, that thing is a beast also

Maybe try another lock, or better, if you want no play what so ever, ever in your life, buy a fixed blade :)

One mans blade play is another mans flexing of the blade. Example for my thinking:

This is what I consider blade play

The knife is opened and there is a clear wiggle (numerous things that can cause that). BTW the issue was resolved by ZT as good companies will.

Then, I have seen people grab a knife by the tip and flex it and then say there is blade play, this I believe is not correct. Any lock will have some flex to it.

I don't want to be that guy but what are you doing to these framelocks? Maybe you do just need a different lock or a fixed blade.

How is EVERY ti frame lock you buy ending up with play?
Are you beating them up in use? What kind of things do you used them for?
Also it's true that if you are grabbing them by the tip you could be causing flex.

I'm not being rude at all, I'm just wondering. The only issue I've ever had with any of my knives is a little lock rock. My DPX hest has this sometimes but the lock has been wearing in and now it's pretty much a non-issue.

I just don't know if you have bad luck or if it's something you may be doing but not realizing it.

Ive had 3. 2 have developed a very minute ticking. Idk why but it's annoying AF

another account of blade play on a sebenza? NO WAY! they are the best possible knives ever ;)

in all seriousness though the only knife Ive ever owned and used extensively that didn't ever establish blade play was a zt 0300. Ive literally used it like a fixed blade and its remained a rock.

The only other way to prevent lock rock is a carbidizer, but they only can do so much. after the "grit" per say of the carbides wear off, the knife usually has lock slippage instead of lock rock.

I think zt did it best by using dlc on the lock face. It never wears and Ive never had any issues.

contradictory?

how can a knife be a bank vault tight knife and sometimes have issues with lock rock?

not trying to be rude just asking.

Yes, what kinds of tasks are you doing with these knives?

Yeah, wondering that also....

I know CRK will take care of you if there is a problem. Never had a Strider, but I would think they would as well.
My 1999 Sebenza developed a tiny bit of stick in the lock after 11 years. Sent it back, and it came back perfect, and looked like a brand new knife. They even put a new thumbstud on it, and I didn't even ask for one.

It is odd that you're having problems with some of the finest framelocks made. You're not going to find better framelocks, no matter what anyone tells you. I've had framelocks from a few companies, and have never had a problem with bladeplay. Don't know what you are doing, but maybe you need to stick with fixed blades.
Maybe you are just having, very, very, very bad luck. But send them in and they will be made right.

Yes. The 0300 is the best framelock I've ever owned.

Kershaw is another good company. Since you like the 0300 so much it sounds like you just need to stick with them. They make many framelocks. You may want to give the ZT 0561 a try. Its a collaboration with Hinderer.

Only have a few framelocks, and they're all very solid. ZT 0300, 0301, 0550, and Spyderco Sage 2 and Leafstorm. The two Spydercos have really only seen light use, but I've had to lean into the 0301 and 0550 before. So far, everything has been solid. No blade play or noticeable change in lockup.

I've noticed there's a recent campaign on the forums to try to spread lies and hear-say about Sebenzas having blade play.

Let me just say: LMAO. Give me a break!

In a world of production knives where many locks of all types usually have a bit of play, that one company that is consistently rock solid and has years of reputation and awards for being so, and you clowns are trying to say you have a bunch of sebenzas with blade play with no photos or videos, whatsoever?

Right. I'd love to see these piles of Sebenzas with "lock rock" and "blade play". It would be nice to have something to contrast the 20+ sebenzas I've owned or handled that were as solid as a folder can be.
