Good useable chopping sword...

R.H Clark: Your right, but at the same time I kinda want to play with a sword. But that is a awesome golok!

Bryfry, gotcha and gotcha. Good info to know, didn't know that, and I can eliminate 5 possibilities right off due to the rat tail tang. I was wondering whether I should ask about that, but you beat me too it.

But DONT POST YOUR RODENT WAKI!!!! NO!!!!!!

Seriously, I'm trying not to spend 400... but whats the deal with the warranty? How many years does it last? And can you really chop vegetation (undergrowth, 1 inch soft wood saplings, bushes, etique) with it? No damage or increased wear? Ty.

i have a Rodent Waki. YES, you can chop vegetation with it. i've chopped alot of stuff with it. i pretty much feel like i have a green light to go total primal with it because (in the promo vid) they hack down a TREE and (unless i'm mistaken) the warrantee is FOREVER. i anticipated some buyer remorse. i mean - i dropped $440 plus shipping on mine. RIGHT NOW, it's a few yards away in my car. i also carry it in my patrol car. there are very few blades that have made me as happy as that one. i'm not into JSA. i sword spar with my friends and practice various cuttings, but i'm no purist/traditionalist. i want the best tool for str8 hackin crap up, be it interior doors, brush, human threats, dogs, or whatever, and i truly believe this is it.

i believe one of our memebers is selling his (in the exchange) for a VERY reasonable price right now. you should look at it. it's on page two, you have to go back a litte, he's down to $360 shipped. i seriously doubt you'd regret that, man.

another (unfortunately more expensive) option is to have Justin make you one. i was talking to him, before i pulled the trigger on the Rodent, and told him everything i expected it to be capable of. he didn't see a problem providing me with EXACTLY what i wanted. i still want to have him make me one, i've got no doubt he could produce something equally amazing.

Haha! I hear ya, Swamp Rats aren't exactly going for chump change. I paid $420 for mine pluss another $120 for the sheath. ....But I don't regret it at all.

To be honest if I could have designed it myself I would have made the blade an inch longer and the handel about an inch shorter, but it is easy enough to swing one handed, and works just fine on vines, branches, and saplings. Pluss as you can see in the video, it may not work as well as an axe, but it can take on full sized trees without dammage and still hold an edge.

And like zignal_zero said, the warranty is pretty fantastic! There is no time limit, and it would seem that it cannot be voided by abusing your waki. You could pretty much take a cutting torch to it and they will still replace it. ...though that would be some crappy morals if someone did do something like that on purpose.

Huh. All very good info and I appreciate it both of you guys. Now I've got a tough decision to make, blow my 'hawk fund and sword fund and angel fund at the same time for a waki or get something else. Hmmm.

Oh, and the member selling the waki for 360, its already been claimed. :(

Ty for the info.

you sure? cause after reading this, i went back and found the thread. it's by Charlie Mike (on page 2) and the sword gets claimed TWICE, but the last reply is him saying it's still available. maybe it is gone, but it doesn't sound like it and i just don't want ya to miss out.

btw - i sell Waki sheaths for $45, if you do get one. that's without a Tec Loc, obviously :D

Huh, huh huh huh. I did email him this morning and he said its gone, but I'll go back now and recheck.Ty. And cool, good to know. Ty.

Can't find the add, I'm assuming its gone. But if its canvas micarta, and only 40 less than new, I'd rather go new in the end.

By the way, any major difference between micarta and g10 handles? Ty.

Edit: Found the add, but nothings changed since this morning. :(

Scrapyard knives is coming out with something very similar to the waki in a few days. Folks who bought it at Blade say it has a livelier feel than the waki...$100 less and same forever warranty...

I have a short sword/big knife coming from Koyote Knives soon for less that will be sweet fo' sure! :) (and less $ than the bussekin)

Rpn, are you talking about the scrapizashi??? Never figured out what the deal is with those.

Guyon, which Ak? :)

man, i know it's hard to justify 4-5 hun for a zombie chopper. i'm sure it's easy for JSA guys to dump 3 times that on historically correct pieces, etc, but i totally feel ya about not wanting to spend that much on something you're gonna go attack brush with. HOWEVER, i have to say this again just in case you DO decide to blow the whole chunk on your ZC: before you pull the trigger on the Waki (which is awesome) or any of the other Bussekin equivalants (which i'm sure are equally awesome), GET AHOLD of Justin Gingrich. imagine having something like the Waki, but built to YOUR exact specs, your choice of grind, your handle material, tanto or spear point, coated or satin, i mean 100% YOUR sword, noonelse packin one. give it some though, man, it'd set you apart.

i love my Waki, but if i could do it all over, there's a very good chance i would've spent the extra 40bux.

also i think i saw where Ontario is still makin short swords for a very resonable price, ya might wanna look into those too.

Yep, supposed to be released in the next couple days. Only difference with the warranty on this one is the wrapped handle isn't covered. Folks sound pretty happy with the ones from Blade and livelier than the Waki is a good thing. Dan (Busse) says the performance on it has been outstanding and will hopefully post a video.

Zignal Zero, who's Justin Gingrinch? I googled the name but can't find a website. And ok, I'll look up Ontario. Ty.

Rpn, kool, I'll wait and see what happens over the next week. Ty.

Justin Gingrich (no "n"). when you look at Ontarios, you'll notice a "Ranger Series" of fixed blade knives, Justin is the one who designed those. he does custom work. used to, you could go to www.rangerknives.com and see his custom jobs, but now i think that just links you to vendors who sell the Ontario made version of his knife. which, i believe, he was strict about it being made to his EXACT standards (materials, etc). i've seen photos of his custom pieces, they're freakin awesome. he is without a doubt the first person i'd contact for anything sharp i wanted custom made.

i doubt he'd mind me giving his email adress as it used to be posted on his site justin@rangerknives.com but, keep in mind, you're lookin at Waki prices if you want him to build you a sword. but the possibility of what you could end up with is insane. i had some black/red designer micarta picked out i wanted him to do my scales out of. real Darth Maul lookin stuff. it would've been the freakiest short sword ever.

not only is he a skilled bladesmith, but he is very likeable. the kind of guy who you'll want to do business with, after talking to. if you're ready to drop some coin on a zombie chopper, u should drop him a line before buying anything.

Go with a condor machete or the bush sword; a "real" sword, in my opinion, shouldn't be used for cutting bushes. The Golak is really nice for bamboo, for light bush perhaps a traditional machete

Yeah, I've seen and heard great things of Justins work.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, but I think that he has a size limit to what he works with. Total length is a good deal less than a Swamp Rat waki, so you may have to give up some handle length if you want a short sword length blade. ....I could be wrong on that though. :)

Zignal Zero, huh. Ty for the info, I'll keep that in mind. And ok BryFry. Ty. I'll think on it, but I not sure if I'm ready to get into custom swords and whatnot. Espiecally if it'll become a beater.

Scotchleaf, I'll look up Condor, and ok. Ty.

Pumkins are fun targets for big blades. I like using my claymore. :D

last time, i communicated with him, he said that he did NOT have the means to heat treat a 30"OAL piece. he DID say he has a colleague whose HT'n abilities he has complete trust in and would sub it out to him. he had NO PROBLEM making a 18" blade 11" handle Waki similar piece, he just had to let a friend to the HT on it.

i REALLY have to get off this subject. either that or try to forget his email adress because i'm really starting to want another sword: 5160 18" spear pointed blade, sabre grind, satin finish, carbon fiber scales, glass punch pommel :D
