I was looking at some of the swiss army types, i could only afford those in the classic ranges, not professional (which looked cool with chronograph bits etc) so was wonder if you knew any good quality watches for that price. Maybe something German? a nice good make!

Thanks.

Chronograph.com is a nice place to look. Seiko Divers are excellent as are the Seiko Military watches. Both come in either automatics or quartz movement.

I have a Seiko SKX 779 Diver and I love it. The lume will blow you away!

I have the brother to your Black Monster, which is the Orange Monster SKX781. Your right too, the lume will definately blow him away. They are very good watches for not too much money, gotta like that.

I got my Citizen Skyhawk Titanium within that price range and it has proven to be an exceptional value. Versatile, attractive, tough, reliable, and dead accurate (only 14 seconds of drift per year).

I'd say that Citizen and Seiko are the best in that range, although Casio is very close. Actually, I'd say that a Citizen or Seiko in that range is functionally as good a watch as you can buy at any price.

I'll soon have enough money saved for another watch. I'm definitely considering a Citizen Skyhawk Titanium- these can be had for your price range. I own two other Eco Drives and they are extremely accurate and reliable. Citizen's titanium is excellent: very scratch resistant. I like the mechanical divers but the no maintenance (ever!) of the Eco-Drive combined with the accuracy of the quartz movement make for a combination that's hard to beat.

I hope you like yours half as much as I like mine. :) It's a great watch!

Did you know that the Skyhawk actually includes a thermocouple that allows the timekeeping electronics to compensate for temperature variations? That kind of fanatical dedication to performance really appeals to me. And it seems to pay off; my Skyhawk is easily the most accurate watch I've ever owned.

How about a Luminox CF SS Seal.I just got one and love it.I did change the band from the rubber strap to the velcro though.

I'm looking forward to it! Actually I've been trying to decide between the Skyhawk titanium and the Eco-Drive diver, but after reading the reviews, I'm leaning more toward the Skyhawk. I read a review that touches on the temperature compensation feature in the Skyhawk, and the last I heard, the actual details of this circuit was a trade secret of Citizen.

Poor Mans Watch Forum. you'll go blind trying to choose a very good watch from the hundreds of choices, for well under your price limit.

I've bought two Citizen Eco-Drives off of ebay at really great prices. There are several dealers who are excellent to work with, and have great feedback scores. Dealers will bend over backwards to avoid a negative feedback comment these days. The Titanium Skyhawks are usually selling around $250 to $280 US.

I've also seen a watch by either Citizen, or Seiko that has two forms of power, like the Kinetic drive, plus a solar energy storage capacitor.

Good luck,
DD

I have been looking at the Citizens Skyhawk watch myself. Can someone fill me in on all the features this watch has.

Cool, thanks for all the replys. Westcoastime.com was a good link, the watches were kind of 'round' if that makes sence. By chance I came across www.wenger-shop.com I had been looking at swiss army and victorianox and completly forgot about wenger. I feel in love! I just can't bring myself to buy a jap watch when I'm wanting a one-off buy really good watch. You just can't beat countrys like German or Switzerland when it comes to working metal parts. Best cars, best watches best, well anything with mechanical workings. Theres just something in the metal work that you think, yes, that is the best I could buy.

God I love Germans and the Swiss.

most wengers & swiss military watches don't hold their value if you decide to sell later, or so it appears from my recent extensive shopping/educational tour on watches. go camp out on poor mans watch forum for a few days, and you'll discover another world beyond common retail.

God I love Germans and the Swiss.

I'm not sure why, but among my watch-informed friends there is a strong preference for Victorinox over Wenger for swiss quartz.

I bought this secondhand for $275. I put it on a black rubber Ridgo strap and it is VERY hot looking. My favorite watch by far and I own several more expensive ones.
