So for the past year or so I have been in a constant search for the perfect pocket knife for my needs. I spent some money, sold some traded others and now I have a nice stock of pocketable knives and fix blades. Including: Victorinox pioneers, electricians a plastic cadet and a little classic; also 3 peanuts of different manufactures and a single bladed 3 1/2" knife. I have learned learned a lot about steel types, how to sharpen, how to take care of them and what companies are making the types of knives I like.

I enjoyed reading and participating in this forum for as long as I have.. however, recently when I started carrying a small peanut for an experiment I have realized that I don't need to search anymore.

All my needs are addressed by a small peanut and a SAK pioneer in my backpack, a Fenix E01 flashlight and a little four way screwdriver for when the SAK is not close enough. This setup does the trick for pretty much everything I ever wanted to do, having some backups for each is also nice now as I feel that I have enough of each to last me a lifetime.

Because of this feeling I have decided that although you all are fantastic people, you are also horrible enablers that appeal to my worst weakness. So based on this I have decided to move on.. go about my life and spend less time in the forum and more time doing things with my pocket knives (haha). I leave you all with a big THANK YOU and a picture of what I have constantly in my pockets since Christmas 2013 (My keys have the 4 way craftsman screwdriver).

Thank you all and remember that although having knives and using them is fun a lot of the fun is had when not worrying so much about them. I found eventually that my concerns about the "right knife" brought me more grief than happiness. This is why I move on with the few that are "good enough" and I'm sure I'll manage.

Cheers,

Well then, safe travels sir! May love and laughter light your days, and warm your heart and home. May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam. May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures. May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours!

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

All the best :)

Paul

Absolutely beautiful,Paul!!

Vaya con Dios, mudguard:D

Good to have had you around, mudguard.

It's a good spot to be in, where you found what you needed and what works for you. I'm quite close to that point myself, if not already there. I still plan to stick around the forums, though.

I sometimes wonder if I actually have a knife hobby, or if my actual hobby is participating in knife forums and if the reason I buy the knives is to give me something to talk about.

One cannot argue successfully against your logic. Emotionally, but not successfully.

I think you found the adamantine blade, and it is yourself.

Good luck mudguard!:thumbup::thumb up:

I know where you are coming from, as I am down to just a small handful of pocket knives that made the final cut. I really don't foresee buying, trading for, or even accepting any more gifted knives. I've reached a point that What I have fits my life, and I don't need any more knives. But as much as this place is an enabler, I am loath to leave just for the reason of the online friends that have become like a second family to me. I love this place and the people that make it up, so I just hang out here, admire the pics of the knives people get. Kind of like an alcoholic dropping by the bar for a cup of coffee, because he likes the folks there, and after taking to them finishes his coffee and goes on his way.

You don't have t leave, just drop in now and then.

Carl.

Cheers,

I totally agree with you. I've curtailed my searching and have started enjoying what I have. Take care and you don't have to be searching for a knife to still hang around.

Good luck in all of your journeys mudguard:thumbup:

I have enough knives to last a dozen or more men several lifetimes.
Unfortunately, I am sick I tell you, siiiick:D

He'll be back, we have seen this before. You think you can, but one day you glance over and there is another knife that you just have to have.. We will see you, just come on in and set down, don't be ashamed.

Another victim of Carl's "all you need is a Peanut" preaching. It's downright un-consumerist! :( When in fact all you need is a Small Texas Jack. :D

In case you're checking in, mudguard, I always enjoyed your threads and posts. Once you can resist the siren song of manufactured desire, and can tread the forums unaffected by it, I believe there are those of us here and those to come who could benefit from your contributions.

A spotted hankie is being waved your way from Yorkshire, England! ;)

Hope to see you pop in from time to time :)

Jack

Good to hear you actually found what you were searching for :)

Sad to see you leaving here - I appreciated your posts and opinions.

However - all the best to you! :) It would be great to see you from time to time in The Crowd again and some reports how you are doing.

I hope to see you soon.
