One of my clients asked me a question about Google Earth and I was embarrassed to admit that I had never used it. So a couple days ago I downloaded it and I love it. It's really a great tool. Today, when I should have been working, I used it to check out past campsites and look for new spots in Harriman State Park. If you turn up the quality of the terrain shading and tweak the elevation exaggeration and lower yourself down to 1000 to 2000 feet in altitude you can really climb the mountains and get a fantastic overview of the topography. One feature I really like is the personal photos, which basically people make available via coordinates and you just click the blue dot to open the picture. What a great time waster :D

Any other Earth users out there? Any tips?

yeah I did for a while, but my old laptop died along with a years worth of photo's.:(

I really liked the program, I was all ways planning trips with it before hand, great tool.

I'm a Google earth addict. I always visit places and do a flyover etc before actually going to the place. In Brazil I have a very hard time getting maps and they are very expensive when I can find them. Google earth is like having a private helicopter tour before you get there.

I also do island hopping. Search the open ocean from way up and you see little dots. Zoom down and they are sat photos of islands. I find it very interesting to search them for roads and dwellings. It is amazing how many of them have human activity. Mac

rupestris, thanks for posting that link, that will be really handy for me in the future.

i can't get google earth to download onto my mac, and i don't really want to put it onto the PC machine...so i just use google maps, and now i will be using that gmap-pedometer site.
