Gorge hooks and primitive fishing tackle?

Does anyone have any stories or insight as to the use of gorge hooks or improvised fishing tackle? What about traps?

My survival kit contains a fishing kit, which I recently tested. I got some small brookies on Mustad hooks and mono line using scavenged bait, but was wondering if anyone has successfully used gorge hooks or other primitive or improvised tackle?

Has the gorge hook method or hook/line method been more successful for you than fish traps or other methods?

Thanks!

Speaking of that, what about ocean/shore fishing as well? My experience is strictly
freshwater.

I've used gorge hooks with mixed success. This style hook lends it self best when using "Blob" type baits. But, the fish they work most efficiently in are preditors; and preditors usually don't like blob baits.

So I've taken to tying a gorge hook to live bait. This is all very time consuming and a bother, if it wasn't for the larger size of the preditors, like Pike for example or snappers I'd just give the whole thing up.
