Yvsa - I got your email. I'll have the video out to you tomorrow afternoon.
I just finished watching the video and I would recommend it highly to anyone who is interested in khukuris in general and also in Military History or Gorkha History in particular. With regards to what it mentioned about the 1857 revolt in India, they had the cause of the revolt correct but as far as how the British were able to hold on to India, I felt they were a bit inaccurate there. The British at that time in addition to Gorkha Regiments, also had Pathan and Sikh regiments who stayed loyal to the British throughout the revolt and helped them crush it. As to why the Pathans remained loyal, I could not explain because the exact causes that led Indian Muslims to rebel should've also led Pathan soldiers to rebel. As far as the Sikh regiments loyalty, one of the biggest reasons I can think of, is because at the beginning of the revolt, the rebels chose to crown the last Moghal emperor of India Bahadur Shah Zafar as being emperor and I think any self-respecting Sikh would never have wanted to see the Moghal empire revived after what the Moghals did to them. When the Red Fort in Delhi had been breached, it was a British Major by the name of Hodgeson along with two Sikh Officers who took custody of Bahadur Shah Zafar and completed the end of the Moghal empire. Aside from that minor detail, the video was very well put together and gave very good accounts of Gorkha bravery and their prowess in battle.
