Hi Doc-

"U.S. Armed Forces Survival Guide", edited by John Boswell (sent courtesy of j williams)

I've go the army survival manual, and there are a few parts that this book takes from that, but this is pretty much entirely a whole different animal. This book has particularly good first aid information, and lots of good plant/animal/shelter/water information beyond that. It's in my 'top3' wilderness books right now.

Thanks Spooky.

You would think all the U.S. military survival books would be the same, at least I would, but, of course, they're not. I bought a book, a couple of years ago, called U.S. Air Force - Search & Rescue Handbook, Dept. of the Air Force, The Lyons Press, 2002, ISBN# 1-58574-555-3. Despite, what I call its misleading title, it is a very comprehensive survival manual, certainly far better than the old standard FM21-76.

No problem Doc. Yeah, I've seen a lot of different material come out of the various military departments regarding survival. You'd think it would be a fairly standardized area, despite the different specific risks or environments encountered by different department.

Either way, I suppose it's good for me to see the same material in different forms! Some things just need to be learned in person though...

I believe the book is a compilation of sevral differant miltary based survival manuals, and sere school material. It is definately a good read.

sounds awesome John, I know one that you should like.
