I've had my share of Spydercos, but I finally received a Caly3 yesterday on a trade. I'll admit I don't "collect" Spydercos, the ones I have are to use. The different models I've had have all been very good knives, but for one (Or several reasons), just don't cut it as an EDC for me (Obviously, JUST for me).
First off, the Caly3's F&F is typical Spyderco. I also really like their G-10 knives. I'm sure I'd probably really like the G-10 Delica, but the Caly has some features that I prefer.
1. Leaf shape flat grind blade: Great blade shape & a good all-around blade shape.
2. Wire clip: I wish Spyderco would put this on more of their knives, but as I undertand it, it's more costly than the regular clips. It makes the knife sit lower in the pocket, is less visible, & seems to not show wear as bad as the regular one.
3. Full SS liners with thin G-10 makes for a relatively thin knife, not too heavy, & Spyderco's G-10 is grippy enough W/O being too grippy (Did that last statement make sense?).
Another thing I like about the Caly3 (& some other Spydies, for that matter), is their choil. It allows for a large hand to fit on a knife with a small-med. size handle (For me, 4" closed is an ideal size, but usually too small).
Anyways, just thought I'd write this & add a thank you to Spyderco, even though it's been around for awhile.
