Got a Compliment

I was talking with a doctor the other day when he complimented me on the sharpness of my knives.

I was in there to get my left hand sewn up after slicing off a chunk of meat on my index finger and slicing open the tip of the next finger....the knife I was sharpening touched the side of the contact wheel and snapped the knife downwards catching the fingers...late in the day and working while fatigued.

This is the first time in a very long time that I have injured myself working with knives, just figured I could do one job before I quit. Should have listened to that little voice in my head that was telling me not to do any more.

The biggest coincidence was running into the Plastic surgeon who was a customer of mine. You meet the people in the strangest places.

I think something is wrong with my computer !! I don't see any pictures !!! I know that the rule say that you can't talk about an injury without showing pictures (except hernias of the groin!!)..Oh well ....Hope you heal up anyway !!:D

George,
I'm glad it wasn't worse. I usually listen to the little voice, when I don't it gets me. Last week I was trying to finish up a few more for the knife show. I was buffing up the handles and one caught and snapped around onto my thumb and forefinger. I thought I was going to see stubs. Thankfully, I had several layers of tape on the blade. It still cut me, but only two little nicks. If it had been fully sharpened, and no tape..... well, lets not think about that.
Take care and keep the neosporin on.

Hope you had insurance. He probably complimented you as he handed you the bill. What we mess around with aren't toys but we all seem to forget from time to time. Last time for me it cost me 100 bucks a stitch. I guess I was lucky it was a stab and not a slice.

sorry to hear that you cut yourself we should never opperate machinery without a clear head.

this is what i did last feb on my home improvement. with the skill saw

My god that must have hurt!

I cut my thumb to the bone this time last year and wore the bandage to the Oregon show. I could pull it off and show the stitches to everyone. It was almost worth the pain to see their faces. :D

I was drilling a knife yesterday, took a break and still had one tang pin hole left to drill. I thought "I won't bother clamping it." When the drill bit popped out on the other side, it slung the knife out of my hand and started spinning it. I escaped without a cut, but I'm remembering to listen to the little safety voice now.

ya so bad i couldnt cry at the time. i got oxycotton for the pain

still getting used to it but there are pros and cons i can hold a can of pop without any effort my nervs in my index are rewired so if i get an itch anywhere from the middle knuckle to the point theres only 1 place to scratch
the inseam bout where the middle fingers knuckle touches when fingers are together

George, you're going to finally have to stop taking your work so expeditiously. Slicing this and that off while young enough is something we can do but there comes a time George for all us. I do hope all is well George.

Going to get the stitches out in the one finger today but the other one withe the meat missing will take a month or longer to even get skin regrown on it.

I can manage in the mean time, sort of.

Getting too old for sitting around waiting for things to heal.

Sorry to hear about the injuries George - best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I had the same thing happen 13 years ago except my blade was finished and razor sharp. Never thought of this before but that maybe the main reason I don't do full tangs. I feel lucky I didn't have to go thumb hunting. 13 stitches to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
