BTW, I posted this on the official Spydie site also, just giving a heads up here.

So the wife bought me a Dragonfly Salt 2 for my birthday from Amazon that stated "Ships from and Sold by Amazon.com."

Here is the link at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00507AJ40/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I get it this afternoon and all the warning signs went off. Whole blade grind is wrong, the blade is so loose that just holding it upside down, causes it to come out of the handle. I can also defeat the lock with very little pressure, in fact my Pingo is harder to close. The FRN has a weird color compared to another yellow Salt I have. It also had metal shaving that fell out when I opened it. The lettering is off and close to the edge.

So I did a search for counterfeit ones and found this link.....Mine is exactly like this one.

These are the pics of the one I received.

Now I am extremely bummed, as I have never had an issue with Amazon as long as it stated "Ships from and Sold by Amazon.com." Even Sal said in a thread I cannot locate that one should be safe as long as the listing stated "Ships from and Sold by Amazon.com."

Also, if you look at the comments for the Amazon link I posted above.....looks like a bunch are hitting customers this last month or so.

Oh well.....

Looks like a fake alright. My guess is someone bought a real one from amazon and returned a fake in the box. You shouldn't have trouble returning it.

Dealers are going to have to be a lot more careful about taking and reselling returns. This reminds me of the recent pm2 issue at a cabelas location.

Not an Amazon merchant but Amazon itself...

:eek::eek::eek:

That is what worries me. I have been a Prime member for awhile and like the next day shipping and easy returns.

I do give Amazon credit though. I just talked to them and they have already issued my credit and generated a return label.

Happy Birthday!

That is exactly my concern with Amazon, especially after researching counterfeits for a long time. They are a "Super Store" where you can buy socks, cat food, CDs, purses, and knives among tens of thousands of other items. They have no dedicated personnel to handle issues like this and probably never have. They just restock returns over and over and over again. Years back the same Benchmade 710 knife made it to 2 or 3 different people within a few months and all of them members of the forums.
Buying from a shop that sells only knives or mostly knives it would certainly be a very rare thing to see this, it wouldn't guarantee anything of course. I know there are a few dealers that while they do a lot of business they don't always understand what they are really selling. This is just sad. Sorry to see you got a knockoff, I will continue to buy knives from knife shops and my socks and other domestic electronics from Amazon. ;)

Been with Amazon Prime for many years, always loved the savings and service. I also sell on Amazon on occasion, very much like Ebay. Come to think of it, there's nothing really stopping me from selling a fake... Just like we see on Ebay.

It's wild that fakes are getting through to "official channels"... Just a week ago, a thread was up about Cabela's having fake PM2's. The manager apparently explained it away but things are getting suspect.

The counterfeiting is just out of control. I really feel for all the company's who's reputation is tarnished by these POS fakes.

In the link that you provided it states, "Sold by Rose Fitness & Sports and Fulfilled by Amazon." Maybe it changed?

I'm on an iPhone, maybe an issue with tapatalk. Either way it's pretty scary when counterfeits are now being peddled through Amazon. I also wouldn't buy Spyderco's through Amazon unless it said sold and shipped by Amazon, this has me rethinking that.

BTW, here is a screen grab from the Amazon purchase, also showing when it was purchased. Shows "Ships from and Sold by Amazon.com."

Oh... Happy Birthday by the way :D Plenty of things to be grateful for amidst this hiccup. One being your very thoughtful wife!

That's the thing, the worst is the many folks who decide to give a knife brand like Spyderco a shot and receive a POS instead believing that its the real deal. Not only do they probably avoid a brand altogether but tell everyone they know about it too.

^
Which is why those "Is my Spyderco real?" threads shouldn't be dismissed (some have voiced their displeasure over them). There's only so many ways WE can help and one of them is being patient with those asking regardless if it is just paranoia.

Notify Amazon customer service immediately. I'm reminded of the post about Cabela's having some fake Spydercos for sale. Cabela's pulled their stock when notified. Amazon has posted notices on various products in the past to the effect that they had been notified of a problem with their stock and they were no longer fulfilling orders until the issue was investigated. I've noticed several reviews about this knife on Amazon that indicate it may be a forgery so yours is not an isolated incident.

But do contact Amazon customer service and point out the other customer's that have reviewed the product and labelled it a fake. They will get this straightened out.

Amazon's great to deal with, but I don't buy knives there anymore--it's impossible to tell the fakes from the real deal from the pictures.
Whether it's intentional or not, they do sell fakes and Blade HQ, eKnives, and Knife Center most definitely do not.
I'm happy to spend a little more dealing with people who know knives.

Amazon is so huge they could take the time to weed out the fakes, it's really a shame that they don't bother to do so.
